- demo Amiga OCS/ECS Copper master by Angels
- Oh boyz, releasing this demo was definitely one my proudest moments on the Amiga scene (ok, that and the Dragons megademo to be fair).
It took me ages to get some of the visuals right (tweaking the colors until they felt 'right'). And as Foxy mentioned, getting Moby's music in sync with the visuals took forever (how many seconds should each effect be shown in order to achieve the best results, etc...) A lot of attention to details here, believe me.
I remember the whole Dragons crew all spent about a month together in the summer of 1991 and that's when we created this demo. Moby worked on the music (a true masterpiece), I focussed on the code and Mr Video (my older brother) helped with the design.
Some of these visual raster effects had really never been seen before (I think). It was a true mix of old-style copper with new-style blitter generated rasters... Take a look at the last effect (Rasters Mutation). Took me while to get this one right :-) Reading some of the comments, I am glad so many of you liked the final result. Never imagined at the time that I would end up reading all this 20 years later... kind of unreal if you ask me.
Amazing times boyz, I'll tell you that... Ah, being 18 again :-)
ps: btw, somebody asked what I was doing nowadays. Well, on the personal side, for the past 15 years I have been living in the states (moved from Paris, France). Married, 2 boys... On the professional side, I ended up sticking to programming. My Amiga years helped me find something I really enjoyed doing (coding). Got to be thankful for this. So, I am now a professional programmer, working for various large US corporations. And lately, I am 100% focussed on developing for the iPad/iPhone. Fun little devices to program for, I can't complain...
ps2: and, of course, here is the full youtube version

- demo Amiga OCS/ECS Generation 4 by Dragons
- Yep, this demo was done for a competition organized by a French amiga/atari games magazine named 'Gen4'. They wanted a demo which showcased both the amiga and the magazine as well (and their '36 15' minitel service)
A lot of people got pissed when we won with this demo. They pointed (rightfully) at the ripped graphs and musics. But they completely missed the point of the competition.
We won because this demo really displayed a good variety of little UI effects you could do with an amiga at the time: rasters, sinus bobs, sinus line, parralax, scrollings, reflection, simple 3d (line + bobs)... Put all of this together, add some nice smooth transitions, and add the fact that in the French demo we really advertised the name of the magazine and you have a winning combo.

- demo Amiga OCS/ECS Megademo by Dragons
- Holy guacamole boyz... I just watched this now nearly 20 years after I wrote the code... Whoa... so many memories coming back. I remember spending countless hours coding trying to get everything right: the colors, the transitions, the scrollings, the rasters and of course the unlimited bobs (hehe). Good old times for sure.
And seeing all you guys' comments really makes me feel good. I knew I was up to something at the time but I never really realized people like it that much. Thanks a bunch boys.
