Alternative Party 2010
category: parties [glöplog]
Now when the party is (almost) over, I'd like to thank you all who came there (esp. foreigners!) and had a good time! Nice to see so many friends once again in a same place :)
Some thoughts of the party itself - the 'real' party area felt quite empty and uneventful this year. There were lots of people sitting in the bar area (Hima & Sali) without wristbands who weren't planning to pay in - and I can understand why, since the bar had screen showing the compos, and liveacts performing. For those bigger performers in the main hall, you could hear the music to the bar, or if you didn't, just turn on SceneSat on laptop and never have the need to leave your seat and cold beer to see them. Not that there was probably much to see - being in the back of the hall during the gig of Carbon Based Lifeforms, all you could see from the front was loads of smoke and way too loud sound compared to how little people were in the hall at that time.
I personally feel that AltParty has been trying to grow too fast - after the success year of Front 242 performing, it's been more grandious every year - but judging by the amount of people hanging in the bar without paying instead of being in the party area, something doesn't work. And no, I'm not suggesting that there should be bar inside the party area since the event has no age limits and all that, but it def needs 'that something' to lure the people in next time.
Just my two cents, I wish no Altparty organizer takes this as a personal insult :P

So how was it overall, I heard there were some problems with competitions? But thats a given :) "tulisko joku gruupista xyz123 tänne, teidän produ ei toimi"
lesson learned from the beginners compo: linux demos are a bitch :p
Watched the event from the stream: had a good time with Ziphoid on scenesat! :)
Actually all the demos ran fine until we ran into issues with the video scaler not accepting 1280x720 due to some very very wierd reason..
Oh well, Lesson learned :)

we need better hardware for projection next year
It was a great feeling to see my prod on the big screen for the first time :) Dunno about the party, I don't have a huge amount of experiences from these. But I had more fun than not, so overall it was nice.
I would say that last years one was better, but this years was a pleasure too. Although I never had the time to send my demo because the pms was down during early friday evening.
nosfe: hear hear. the video scaler / mixer thingy bugged out like there's no tomorrow. the signal leaving the computers was perfectly fine :D
mrp-, you could've just bring your demo to the compo team
visy, i heard rumours of some good hardware some other parties are using, should check what's the proper thing to get.

The video scaler didnt work in 2009 either.. Was it still the same device?
I think the scaler was different in 2009, it didn't eat DVI at all iirc...
But the one used this year wasn't supposed to be shitty either, it was supposed to eat any signal and convert it to 720p.
Working resolutions at the actual presentation seemed to be mostly 1024x768 in which we ended up running many of the productions, not that far from 720p though (except aspect ratio). But hey! At least the screen was bright! :)
mrp-: There were few cases where people just brought the production via a physical media. Even if submitting borks, you can always ask the compoteam for help ;)

i think mrp is just looking for an excuse and was in fact chickening out (you know, like okkie) ;=)
chicken!
