I wonder how long it'll take one of the big prizemoney demoparties to hold machinima compos

scali, nobody's saying it's the same as demos. the suggestion that is being made is to add a compo for them. an ogg surely isn't a demo. or a 96k game. or an avi, for that fucking sake. you're totally allowed not to like watching a machinima compo. go out during it, have a beer, i can guarantee you that at any decent demoparty, during such a compo, you will find others outside who'll not even share your beer but also your opinion.
Five years from now a compo named "Realcode" will be part of every bigger demoparty. A small crowd of leftover democoders will compete on various platforms with demo made from scratch and innovative routines. The remaining compos will be dominated by a new generation of metrosexual self proclaimed "demo-designers", that look down on the pityful group of remaining coders.
Ok basically what I'm seeing here is a bunch of people who are afraid that the scene is going to evolve and they won't have any control over it.
Mostly due to the influx of americans. (You can substitute gamers here if you want but it's mostly americans, you know, overcompetitive, uncreative, turn-it-into-a-business people.)
It's really NOT a problem. The scene always has evolved, it's never been able to be controlled, and it's going to go on evolving and not being controlled. When the americans discover it's uncontrollable, they'll diss it and bugger off.
Leaving us to "clean up the mess." And, well, we'll make whatever the f* we want with the mess.
Political bullshit aside, really, this is concern over control and evolution, and the scene is dead argument in a new, exciting form! OOOH yay let's poke it and see if it makes noise, Oooh it does let's make a tune out of that and release it in the wild compo.

Americans? WTF? Continue like that and I will dig up some old "the scene is dead" threads :)
John Carmack is killing the scene!
Am I the only one who doesn't find the name stupid? ;P
