Did nobody test the 1920*1200 version on page 3 ?

it works.
notice that the radialblur (eg used on the walking woman) looks slightly different at higher resolutions.
increasing the font-size appears more relevant to me than improving textures.

Just seen the Highres version at tUM. The texts look quite shaggy though. But all in all still nice if you think of how old that piece is :]

Tested by me, 1920 version. Bit blocky here and there, quite slow but still impressive. It's h7 goddamit.

(well, I always assumed that's what the reference was, anyway)

besides the religious references, yes. there's a story.

the original name of the intro was volvox nine, alias vx9. few days before mekka picard packed his computer and all stuff, and moved to warpig's place with train. it was 200 km in distance and a three our ride :)
we picked up him at the railway station and we all went home to warpig. we plugged in all the stuff and turned on picard's computer.

we all saw some part of the engine before, because picard sent us samples. but in that moment when picard first showed us the progress that he made on vx9, we simply went into a shocked, stunned, thrilled, astonished and dazzled, trance-like state of mind :)
it was a truly breath-taking, ever-lasting minute of our lifes. we were in total silence. and in this historical moment warpig broke the silence saying out loud: "the name sucks". :)

anyway, he was the designer, so we delegated this task to him :) he worked on the intro, the design, the keyframing and all the gfx stuff for three days and night in a row with the least sleep that can possible to a human being. in the end he became like a zombie on redbull, but at some point he showed us his conception on the title sequence with the 'heaven' label and the number '7' shining. that original concept was pretty much the same as that you can watch any time in the final intro.
we liked it, so there were no objections against the name :) a day later, when we already passed the deadline of the intro compo ofcourse :) he showed us the possibility of even more tiredness, but he was insisted that he's going to write some kind of 'poem' into the intro, because he want to tell what 'heaven seven' means.
so in the last one and a half hour he wrote all the the text that you can see in the intro, and his intent was to explain on some level why is the name 'heaven seven'.

Sounds like a pretty common "demo-naming" procedure if you ask me. :)

yeah :) name first, reason later :)

Thank you HelloWorld! It was great to watch this in native fullscreen on my 1280x1024 monitor. This is a beautiful intro and it looks fantastic in higher res, even despite the low resolution textures. This is one of my all-time favorites. Cheers!

stephen :

you can join me at the adress i have put in the text file in the zip file at the BOTTOM of page 2 of this thread :) !
if you got your hands on the source or something, that's great!
(you cant give info here?)

the fact you told us the title is justified by the story just asks for an explanation for the poem itself!
especially considering the fact that the poem was the starting point of an unforgettable thread speaking of religion on pouet! :)
anyone remembers this?

the poem is an art, and every art is self-explanatory :)

i asked warpig once, but he didn't remember any thing :) he was so tired when he wrote that, even he complained about that he was so tired that he didn't capable of using the english language rules properly :) so this is the reason why the poem has a little bit weird or fuzzy english :)

(however it's still better than my english :) )

okay, i guess the "art" now lives by itself, away from the author, and it's up to the reader to understand what it means! :)

great to hear this was shown at TUM!

Hi, and happy new year ! :)

Just so you know (again), thanks to stephen i have managed to compil... erm, to put together a working high-res version with working support from 320*240 to 2048*1536, both in windowed and fullscreen.

The hardest part for the user now is to choose one resolution amongst the many choices :)

Neat eh?

Things are cleaner now.
Just two notes: 1680 has artifacts, this was to be expected...and windowed doesnt work if you choose a mode whose resolution is superior OR EQUAL to your desktop.

Sorry, no package for now... bedtime :)

Other improvements might be possible... maybe.

Here you gooo!

heh thanks for the wiki link and the story behind h7, i'm always fond of such side explanations :))
