Coders: How do you stay sharp in the everyday?

Given the right mindset and the right 9-to-5 job, burn-out is entirely achievable.
Please note that I don't work as a coder but work in an IT environment so this is the context of my answer to the initial question.
How do you stay sharp in the everyday? Balance is key.
And we live in an unbalanced world.
i.e:
1/ noise has increased 10ˆ5 times since the era of the dinosaurs.
2/ Food sold in supermarkets is crap:
A-our body is made of cavemen genes so we except maybe the germans (they have different genes, yes) aren't 'engineered' to digest the wheat and other cereals gluten found in almost every food products made by the food agro-industrial complex. They have appeared just 10 000 years ago in the regular diet, but the human being has appeared 280 000 years ago so as evolution is slow our genes can't handle it properly.
B-sugar is removing all the good minerals from your body as it oxidises your water content and it brings so craving after craving, this is how your body reacts when you get rid of good nutrients, it says "I'm hungry feed me".
cocacola is especially bad in this case as it raises your blood sugar level very quickly which gives you ton of energy quickly which as we spend our life on a chair is useless, but saturates your cells with insuline created in mass by your pancreas, as your cells can't handle so much sugar, insuline spikes and saturates your cells with a message telling them to take the sugar (glucose exactly) which can't handle more sugar, the result is that your pancreas enter in an infinite loop of insuline creation, which gets rid your body of sugar very quickly: 2 hours after your coke, you're completely wrecked and want another one and the spiral goes on forever.
C-vegs and fruits comes from the other side of the world (check the labels), which means their vitamins content is low, very low.
D-oil is everywhere and the same for heavy metals, pesticides residue, ... All are bad to your health as they have a bad relationship with your male hormones, are poisons, ...
E-water is polluted when a field is bombarded with pesticides, and chemicals, a part goes into the vegs and fruits you eat, and the other part goes into ground water, and where is the tap water coming from, like other water btw
So after the bad news, the good ones:
A. organics, local in season vegs and fruits are good to your health. All wild animals eat them and only them, we are the exceptions, so we are wrong. Organics contain more nutrients and less pesticides, eat raw it's better to deplete less the nutrients levels
B. organic meats exist too, same for fish, of course it's more expensive but it's better for your health (the longest living human beings don't live in the western world, this is due to our way of life that we suffer so much and don't live longer) and for the planet (we all live on the surface of a sphere called earth)
C. dress with pure cotton, wool, not plastic or synthetic clothes, because your skin is permeable so being in contact with non natural materials will have effect on your hormones again
D. exercices make your blood moving into your body, blood function is to bring nutrients and oxygen to your organs and tissue, so move!
E. drink plenty of water, some says your body weight in Kg / 12 liters per day. You can filter your mains water to get it better (less fluoride in UK, less chlorine and virus, bad bacteria everywhere else), and remember to go to the toilet to get rid of all your toxins, this is what urine is for.
F. sleep as much as you need, not more.

I have a hard time taking any pouet-thread that's more than 2 pages long seriously. Because they never are.
there is no magical recipe for this. try different things things daily, experiment with them and see what works for you the best.

one thing you gotta ask yourself: if the job turns from what it is now into something unpleasant, what's the incentive to stay there, if there is one? i.e. why you do it? if you do it for the money, just stop being emotionally attached and make sure you keep professional. if you do it for the passion of it, well, you're screwed.
Btw, I stopped drinking coffee recently. I definitely feel much less sleepy now, we'll see how it goes :)

Gargaj: Hear, hear! I was waiting for someone to offset the "it's not your fault, blame management"-type comments. :)
1. If things are shit due to "bad management" or similar; try to provide some input yourself.
2. If that doesn't work, or the problem is something else completely, do a cost vs benefit analysis and act accordingly.. (may be anything from sucking it up to going postal but more typically "look for something else")

That doesn't mean none of the other suggestions and comments here had value though. There's plenty of things that might be worth trying out in order to deal with stress, and there are plenty of issues that won't necessarily be solved by moving on to a different job. :)
Since I'm watching my water drinking (after a breakdown 1 day before last revision), I'm feeling more sharp and more alive overall.
So to drink more water is my #1 contribution to this thread.
For me, It is minimum of 2 L a day, and if I can, I try to drink around 3-4.

The formula above: "some says your body weight in Kg / 12 liters per day." seems to be even poisonous to your body if you ask me. That would be around 8 L for me... I did that and my urine was quite white. My doctor told me, that this is as bad as it is to have it like orange...

Update: I took another programming gig on the side. Same technology (Unity), also developing games, but a much smaller team and a much clearer specification. I coded 5-6 hours straight yesterday, and I felt tired in a good way when we were done, without having my mind cluttered (which is what really exhausts me).
So there you have it - there are other gigs in the sea, and some of them are good.
