first of all, if promises are broken and/or if there was a lack of communication, that sucks ofcourse.
but saying that having to pay taxes in another country is bullshit is not correct either. for example, if you'd win a prize like this in holland, the dutch tax office claims 29%- except if the prize has a value lower than €454. (for the record, that's besides the income tax that you may or may not have to pay in your own country.)
except ofcourse if the prize was announced to be "tax-free"...

rob, i believe that the point is that if nvidia would've nicely told quisten that this 30% is not usa income tax but prize/gift tax like havoc explained, then i'm sure there would've been no problem. the thing is that instead they just ignored the matter, and i'm sure that that would annoy me, too.
clearly it's good that q started this thread, as f.ex. tbc didn't get their prize at all yet and they wouldn't have found out how things were going without this. finally, considering just about all nvscene prize winners hang on pouet, i'd say this is the perfect place for such a thread.

Temis fought through a lot of shit to get the party to happen, and a lot of shit after. Hell, I haven't mailed out the prizes for TMDC from last year yet >.<
Putting aside the argument for a second - people don't make demos for prize money, it's just not worth the time. We'd get 50c / hour that way. Prizes make the compo more exciting. Have you ever played poker for matchsticks or pennies? It's not the same experience at all.

I do believe that Temis has done a lot off good work, and I for once, like what he have contribiuted. I've stated why got pissed earlier.
And we don't make demos for prizemoney, BUT when you actually win 2000smackers, and are a student, that actually makes a huge difference.
