Why would I like to be able to have multiple youtube links for my prods

Very funny, Maali :)

I really don't understand the hostility I'm getting here.
Compared to how your platform community usually handles disagreements, I'd say the discussion has been more than civilized. :)
Disagreement is not hatred / hostility.
apart from the obvious disagreement I cant see a valid reason for introspecs own prods to have some more yt links if he desires it so much... its not like we dont have prodpages with worse cluttering of links :p
I'm with introspec. The counter-argument seems to be "we shouldn't bother trying to make the Youtube experience better for people, because there's already a better, less convenient solution for the people willing to seek it out."
That's bullshit. It's like saying "we shouldn't bother having more than one flavour of ice cream in shops, and it should be the crappy Mr Whippy stuff, because anyone who isn't willing to travel to Italy for proper ice cream clearly doesn't give a shit anyway. And then when everyone outside of Italy starts believing that all ice cream is shit, you should ignore their opinion and just go to Italy to hang out with your little circle of ice cream expert friends."

gasman: But we still haven't established what makes the two flavors of the ice cream different. As far as I understand the argument is "YouTube sucks" but that will stay like that with any number of videos.
What Gargaj just said.
OK. I do not have any examples except for videos for my own prods. I did not wanted to give them to you because you already accused me of attention whoring. But I do not care anymore. Here you go.
This is my prod as a youtube 50Hz video (true frames).
Watch it as non-HD first. Then watch it as HD (I am assuming that you have the browser that is 50hz-capable in youtube). I am reasonably happy with HD quality. It is a fair representation and it will only get better as technology improves. The non-HD video however is abysmal and has little to do with what my demo should look like.
So I also made a version with blended frames. It is less "true", but it works correctly in any browser on any platform. However, when I tried adding this second video to my prod, it was refused on the basis that "one video should be enough".

The 50 fps version works fine in latest Firefox, Chrome and IE. So what are we talking about? The problem that some people won't switch up to HD so they need a separate version?
So have we established that there is a problem at last?
Now, I do not want to insult your intelligence coming up with various scenarios where HD is not practical. How many megs are on your mobile connection contract? etc etc etc

That blended frames version is also 50Hz (or 49 for some reason, according to the selector) when viewed in HD, which is inferior compared to the true frames version in my opinion.
But apparently your problem is that youtube doesn't blend frames when it falls back to 25Hz in SD. But that is a fact for every 50Hz+ youtube video out there.
With the same logic we could also upload separate SD videos of everything because we don't like how youtube resizes them when falling back from HD.

I am just saying that this judgement - to make a second video or not to make a second video - should be left for the prod authors to make. No-one will be adding videos just because they've got nothing better to do.
I made plenty of stuff that would work just fine in 25Hz, blended or not. I am sure the same is true for the majority of prods. But there are exceptions.
Haha, that's fine, from now on you are allowed only to have two links to the video of your prod, both must be utube and one of them -- blended.
If you also had video recorded from real HW -- it will be banned! If you used alternative video hostings -- ban it also. Otherwise some below-average dumb-asser wouldn't know which video to watch and TS wouldn't get another youtube view (which I know he is very greedy of).
Every little hitler wants to set his own rules -- that of course seem very reasonable and consistent to him.
What I don't want -- that somebody would dictate me here to have only so many videos made only in some specific way and hosted only at specific video hosting.

Don't be silly, lvd. This is exactly what this discussion is about. I believe we established that there are some valid reasons to have several videos and now we just need to say that OK, it is not such a terrible idea after all. No-one is trying to force you (or anyone else) to do anything in particular. You are welcome to have your videos raw or blended :)

But now we're talking about practicality, not possibility. Even mobile YouTube can do 50-60fps now.
What about uploading a proper video to scene.org instead of relying on fucktube to not mess up your work?
just remove that interlace shit from your demos, problem solved.

Agreed! Even if I'm just watching videos, I tend to download rather than stream. If there's no "standalone" vid available I will resort to grabbing it from Youtube, but prefer not to if I can avoid it.
(That said there are some ... less than stellar captures linked on some of the prod pages here - Moppi - IX comes to mind. The caps available on YT are *far* better than the downloadable one on scene.org.)
There's no reason to offer both HD and non-HD streaming on Netflix because clearly the intended audience of films goes to the cinema.
There's no reason to provide lossless formats on music download stores because clearly the intended audience of music buys vinyl.
There's no reason to release non-vendorlocked ebooks because clearly the intended audience of books prefers hardcover.

I have a solution for you, introspec: Upload a 50hz video that is true to the source material that also contains, tacked onto the end, the same video but with blended frames for those who will get the 25fps youtube experience. One video, both audiences.
(and if that idea sounds somewhat moronic, that's because it is!)

I missed the origin of this discussion, but all this talk about YouTube quality and how best to view demos looks like a big strawman argument to me. So please, remind me:
If a demo author thinks it would be helpful for him and his audience, what exactly is the harm of having multiple YouTube/capture links on his prod page?
(Just saying "it's not necessary in my opinion" isn't enough!)

many people upload "cooked" videos with each pair of frames blended together. This works great, but people who know what is going on come to the comments and complain that this is cheating.
Interlace & noise is better preserved if you upload a 2x or a 3x nearest neighbour scaled version to Youtube.
visy, please check out the examples I gave. Zooming is irrelevant if every other frame is lost. And of course I zoom.
@visy: we tried a lot with annikras with my intros/demos, and the best solution is to disable the interlace when encoding the video :)
