Niklas Beisert is a familiar name to me. Wasn't he active in the demoscene many years ago?

Niklas Beisert for the development of powerful exact methods to describe a quantum gauge theory and its associated string theory.

Author of Cubic Player,
Main Coder of Toasted, Lasse Rein Böng and other DOS demos from '94 to '96 pc scene.

I tried to get hold of Niklas of Cubic-fame a few years ago, and stumbled upon this university professor in quantum physics. But back then I came to the conclusion that they were not the same person, only share the same name. I could be wrong, though.
It's the same dude.. When we did toasted I visited him several weekends. He was still living with his parents back then and his room was filled with books abount quantum-stuff and higher physics even back then.
Oh, OK. Thanks for correcting me :)
pascal/cubic team that is, to be even more exact :)
Congrats then!
Awesome new of the day! Yeah! :)

i cant help but think of Sheldon Cooper
As surprising it may seem, many people who were active in the scene in the '90s are.. well.. old. =)
Is it possible that Cubic Team is the academically most successful group of the demoscene? After all another member (Frenetic) was also appointed as full professor last year.
I would give him a prize for his development of methods to describe a roller coaster in MS-DOS. Bravo to both achievements! :)
Bunch of old Hysteria members are professors, but they're not active in the scene anymore.
if i were him, i'd get a tshirt with 'doing demos isn't exactly theoretical physics, is it?'
I think Haujobb has more professors :)
I don't think anyone in Traction ever graduated.
Hehe.. "Beisert"... Det var alltid en schlager for norske scenere.
Andromeda has Jekyll and Hyde with their M.S. in Operator Algebras and Ph.D. in Algebraic Topology, so they're pretty smart.
But, you can't really tell.

Algebraic topology hmm. Now I wonder how many topologists are in the scene
GUAGE THEORY
How many scenepoints is worth a Nobel prize?
(... and congrats! :D )

Wow, that's cool!
I remember the Lasse Reinböng Windows-port, that was (at least to me) the first indication that Win-demos might be the future after all...

Props to Pascal/Cubic Team :D
And yes, we are all getting old, I'm sometimes wondering about demoscene in 2040, most of us will be grandfather, and when we will be retired we will be able to spent a lot of time to make demos :D

Nobody in Trilobit has a degree to my knowledge either. We're all dropouts or never attended.
I used Niklas Beisert's cache-optimized rotozoomer routine in this intro http://pouet.net/prod.php?which=16764
Thanks for that!
A university degree is some kind of a proof that at least the person is not both stupid _and_ lazy. Might be stupid, or might be lazy, but most probably not both. The lack of a degree is not a proof of anything.
