R.I.P :'(
link me beautiful and RIP
R.I.P. Jack.
May he rest in peace.
Not to rain too much on the mourning, but after having read On The Edge, Jack appears as less of a computer pioneer and more of a cutthroat businessman. There's a quote in the book to the effect that he screwed everyone over (partnering companies, distributors, resellers etc) except the consumers. As far as I'm concerned, he has just as much to do with success of Commodore as with its failure. To me, the real heroes are Chuck Peddle, Bob Yannes and the other engineers.
And with that body size it's a miracle he lived to see his 83rd birthday. I've been expecting his death for a long time now.

You are of course right about him being a cutthroat businessman, but without him commodore would never even have existed.
very sad news :( R.I.P
nitro: he was a pure businessman from a different era - i don't think he has ever denied this. rough around the edges and straight and to the point. he was not an "engineer" - so i dont see your point.
A company with only engineers would build an awesome product but never sell it. You need a cut-throat businessman at the top, he'll keep the engineers producing products that are competitive and affordable, and not just solidly built and high performing at any cost :)
breadbox youth love right here
Just saw the news, very sad indeed. Wishing his family and friends all the best.
RIP.
Sad news. May his legacy live long.
Thank you for making the Commodore C-64 and Atari ST possible !
Rest In Peace.
We will never forget you.

What a shock... REST IN PEACE, JACK.
He left his mark in the history of computing ( and IT-business for that matter ), lived a long and eventful life and by that setting things in motion that somewhat changed the world.
With such a life-résumé no reason for mourning is necessary.

Maybe it's not Jack's doing that C= computers were so awesome, but he's a big part of the reason i had a C=64 at all, because he made home computing affordable enough at the right time.
Ta for that Jack, and RIP.
Ta for that Jack, and RIP.
R.I.P.
Thank you Jack for your price politics so everyone could afford a computer! You have made a computer-revolution possible, because people could actually buy Computers and not just large companies and rich people!
Rest in Peace.
Rest in Peace.
tHK for all mister Tramiel! R.I.P :(
