pouet features?

category: general [glöplog]
hi. i would like to share a few things i just thought off before i forget it, and i thought it would be kinda cool to have as a feature on pouet. im not sure how complicated such a system would be to code, but i dont think its much work.

im not sure if its been suggested earlier but i will share it anyway.

how about a sorting system that could sort out all the demos that for example lets say that they have fractals, metaobjects, raytracing, plasma, voxels, etc.. in them? like some tagging system that would alow you to only search for the demos that contains such effects. also if they are minimalistic, arty, psychedelic, slow, fast-paced. type of colors, lets say black and white, orange vs blue, dutch, etc.. if i would like to get inspiration or just watch all the demos that are only black and white i would just select or type in black and white and get all demos _only_ that are in black and white and or more features that i select. so if someone wants to watch lets say a demo that have the specific effects or genre they would just type or select the tags that are available. also a system like this should be able to add new tags (so that there are no predefined tags in the system) but sceners can add so that nothing is missing. i wont repeat myself too much now because i think you get the idea.
feedback are welcome, flames are not, because this is really a serious suggestion :D

stupid idea because gloperators already lack time & motivation to make sure the current (rather minimal) dataset for each prod is correctly filled, expanding it only serves to increase the error rate. and no, public editing is not a solution, it only leads to spamming/trolling/etc (see the bbs).

next time, think before you write, because you could've thought of this yourself, now couldn't you rudi?

Tagging has been suggested about 7 zillions of times.

If you are serious about it, go make a web app/site about it. One that does the tagging, sorting and search itself but scrap the prods from Pouet.net. If you want you can also use SceneID for login and such, or maybe make uup some kind of semantic syntax in the comments of pouet e.g #tags:orange, black, white, fast paced, dutch, flyby

Rowley Birkin:
no, i couldnt think of it. i thought gloperators where like these smart geniouses that could come up with something like that. but i rest my case.

p01:
no, i was serious about the context, not the work put into it. i have very little knowledge about searching and sorting algorithm. i gave a shit about it algo class, but i dont give a shit anyway.

i want a pouet feature that generates random suggestions for pouet features!
A tagging system will be pouetized and hence useless...

p01's suggestion would be pretty easy to implement but a pain to maintain - and who would want to browse such a system? :)
My vote is for the still for the print a real pizza button

@Rasterblaster: What you need to understand is, that Pouet is NO social network!

It is an asocial network. :)

Salinga: define socializing please.

artcity use something like that. why can't pouet?

say stars by nooon had voxel tunnels and i wanted to look at other demos that had voxel tunnels. that way i could find out if stars by nooon had the best voxel tunnel in the world. and i would not waste time on searching through hundreds or even thousands of demos just to find out. call me crazy, but i am like that. i dont like to watch demos anymore without knowing what they feature, only if i am at parties, so that i can expect too see something or value something when i download a demo. just also i dont use pouet as much as i did before, i dont have the time to watch ever god damn demo that comes out.

Pouet is a BBS. BBSes do not have tag clouds, only lots of suspicious people with modems!! :)

I would like a feature on pouet where a thread containing images posted from random sources all over the interwebs could be begun and then added to by any registered member & still be made accessible even after it is closed due to reaching a certain # of posts .

I would say that we mostly seem to be actively anti-social. But that's just me.

ringofyre: you're very close to pissing off all people managing pouet, admin/moderators/gloperators with those posts, threads and now requests.

This is a *demoscene* website, a word that probably doesn't mean much to you, so I suggest you crawl back to where you come from and get lost with your random crap.
