Next gen consoles

What a nice demo platform this (PS3) will be :)
"...The graphics chipset, meanwhile, has been named the RSX - which stands for "Reality Synthesizer", as opposed to the "Graphics Synthesizer" that powered the original PlayStation 2. Never let it be said that Sony let an opportunity for a pretentious name pass them by. The part, which has been manufactured by NVIDIA, is described as being more powerful than two GeForce 6800 Ultra boards, which are the current top of the range PC graphics solutions, and will output in HDTV resolutions all the way up to 1080p as standard"
It even features shaders model 3.0

and some really nice PS3 footages over there: http://www.gametrailers.com/
or there http://www.gamespot.com/e3/e3movies.html since the other server seems somewhat busy :)
Yeah, well... color me skeptical. First we need to be able to crack the next-gen consoles open so we can do useful shit with it (you know, demos). And let's see how it will actually measure up once it's on the shelves and in benchmarks that do not smell of legalese bull.
I wouldn't be surprised to see gotchas like "Oh you mean to actually texture and shade those polys? Oooh, well that's about 25% of the advertised fillrate for you then!" -I fondly recall how the PS2 was MORE SUPARCOMPUTAR THAN DREAMCAST IN EVERY WAY according to the pre-release specs :)

We will see. So far, some of the gameplay footages from E3 look VERY promising anyway :)
and how much of it do you suppose was actually made on a ps3? :) and how much of it do you suppose was actually realtime? :)

smash: it's not because YOUR company provided a faked trailer that the others had to do the same. I know some that provided real time stuff, unlike yours ;)

consoles spring up and die, PC remain :p
... with 500 $US gfx cards.
there aint no word nor photoshop for consoles ( and i bet you dont want to pixel with a joystick/trackball, do you ? )
technically you can use Pocketword on an Xbox with that scary Windows CE.NET project.
Just watch the "Vision Gran Turismo" clip, awesome graphics and the physics engine seems to be good too.
PS3 owns Xbox 360

Geez, we're getting fanboyism already?
The consoles aren't even out yet!
And unless you happen to be a game developer who's been involved with projects on both new platforms, I doubt you can form any kind of opinion on which is better at this time.
Other than that, I think with consoles it's often the games, not the hardware, which ultimately decides which console is the best.

Nintendo customer aiming is 10~20 years old
PS and Xbox are 18~35 years old

Ah, and by the way. I have to make a statement.
I'm not an absolut masochistic Dreamcast fanboy who doesn't accept other platforms. Actually, I love playing on my GameCube and Xbox currently.
But... What the heck happend to the evolution of the videogame business since the late 90s? Nothing if you ask me. The only thing which counts if better graphic and better hardware specs (of course). The idea of the Nintendo ON would be the right step as the next evolution step in my opinion. Videogame consoles should be gaming platforms which are different to computers, give you a more easy access to entertainment and crazy unconventional games. And NOT slaves of it's own.
My 2 cents.
And a shoutout to the demoscene: Why the heck are some groups on the way to "HAVE TEH 1ST XBOX309582 / PSP / PS3 DEMO ZOMG!!1", if they never ever thought about older platforms, which were never been exhaust to it's limites...? Ah yes, because they want to produce a shitty "First PSP demo" because it's 1337. Alright. Fuck off.
