The official TMDC19 thread
category: general [glöplog]
I'm happy to announce the 19th edition of the pseudoannual Text Mode Demo Compo!
It's all back: late invitro, lame diplomas and cool super-low-resolution demos for a screen mode that can't be natively used without a 15yrs old OS!
Grab the invite here, get inspired, make something cool!
Have a look at the official site for the rules, dates, links to tools & libs & other useful stuff!

The dates in the official site are for 2015. Other than that, yay! Textmode!
My threshold for entering is a bit high due to expectations, but maybe I should do something less-serious and just get over it..
sol_hsa: That is solid advice for any compo. Just do it!
yeah I haven't had time to update the site yet.. will try to do asap. The invite was actually thrown together in a hurry at the last minute.
As for expectations... what urs says, do it! :)

come on , the year needs to be correct at least :(
The site says "TMDC18", so the year is correct. How about "come on, give the guy a break" instead - or alternatively, organize it yourself and always be on time with website updates?
who cares about the year as long as there are ossom releases? :)
Gotta say I fully agree with Saga and sensenstahl :)
BUT!
the site has now moved forward in time! :D

Hmm, the invtro crashes on my PC: "TMDC19.exe has stopped working".
and I see a black window.
I tried several of the compatibility options, no luck.
Any ideas?

Oh, Win10, NVIDIA 9600GT with the latest drivers.
@trc_wm: dang!
Win10 and a nvidia card is what I used to make it. Only fancy tech I used is OpenCL.. but it's not like it was THAT fancy...
I guess I could add a noGPU version (or switch)

The 9600GT has OpenCL 1.1 support, is that enough?

noGPU version added. Initial package updated, same link you can just redownload :)
The differences ain't so big actually... the CPU version, while less sharp and a little noisier, should still run acceptably on any decent computer.
If it still crashes ... then the problem is elsewhere and I really have no clue what it could be!

Yup, works now! \o/
I had the same issue, Thanks for the fix BarZoule.
Apologies for my comment about the lack of year earlier on.

..and here's a teaser.
...aaand submitted (through gmail), so there's at least one entry before the deadline.
wow. an entry before the deadline. gotta be a first!
however.... the last screen reminds me to remind you all (it's in the rules somewhere but hey, who reads that :P ):
Entries will be judged using the 8x8 raster font, unless you specify otherwise. (the screen above looks more like 8x12)
The rule is actually for 2 reasons:

The rule is actually for 2 reasons:
- it's much closer to the good old fullscreen BIOS font (when it was accessible)
- it allows you, the demomaker, to assume your graphics will be displayed using "square pixels", so you don't have to stretch your graphics and/or formulas.
Yeah, this time I don't particularly care, but in "litterae finis" the font (and it's aspect ratio) did matter a bit. My text conversion engine (still) uses the dumped BIOS font for calculations, regardless of what the output is.
Two weeks to go.. out of curiosity, any other entries yet?
