If that, *maybe* you also know how to run a program. That's about all ya gotta do to begin your brief escape from the everyday rat-race to have a moment of tranquility. Anyways, enough about that trip to the Bahamas, lets talk about the MusicDisk! To run this fine piece of work and remarkably most other quality software you type the name, in this case being: C:\DEMOS\PM> digital or C:\DEMOS\PM> digital mist if you wish to hear the song with the filename "mist.dsm" NOTE: - Please remove any Disk Cache software you may run before enjoying this Music Disk. (ie: SmartDrive, NCache, HotMomma, etc) - The first time DIGITAL.EXE is run, it will add 14 bytes of configuration information to the end of itself. This may cause a warning to occur from virus checking programs! If you are just one of those people that can't enjoy simplicity, please refer to the added confusion below: Command Line Switches: /S -- Allows you to Re-Configure your sound card. /# -- # Being a 1 thru 7, allows you to start the Disk on any song. /V -- Default Volume to start player at. (0-64) /PM_RULES -- We all jump out of your screen and dance around! (NOT!) ───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── │■ WHAT COOL THINGS CAN I DO WITH THE PLAYER? ■│ ───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── There are limited things to do while in the player because of many people's urge to drum subconsciously at the keyboard while listen'n to da tunes. So, to overcome this we kept to only a few keys to allow you freedom to whip the drool from your chin. Any +/- keys -- Turn the Main Volume up and down Arrow Up/Down -- Cycle thru the song arrangement Arrow Right/Left -- Rewind/Fast Forward the Current Order Numbers 1-7 -- Dial in your favorite tune ───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── │■ WHO THE HELL ARE THE PSYCHIC MONKS ANYWAYS? ■│ ───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── Some of you know us but for those that have never seen or heard of us, a brief introduction is in order! If you notice a member in this sick and demented state please just agree with what they say and keep your distance. And remember, NEVER take them seriously when they call members of your family nasty names) ───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── │■ SONG INFORMATION AND OTHER LITTLE TIDBITS ■│ ───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── Some notes about the songs included: "Castle of the Mists" - This song was a bit rushed (we needed a new leadoff song), but I think it turned out well. Inspired by the simple fact that I had never done a mod in 6/8 time before :) "Ethereal Passage" - This tune was originally meant to be background music for a demo we had planned to release a few months ago. However, since the plans never worked out, I decided to insert it into the musicdisk. "Dimension 2012" - The only song with a drum loop :) This is a vaguely dance-ish style with a few interesting chords thrown in... I apologize if some of the samples aren't perfectly looped, they may click slightly but I feel that they were too good to throw away :) "Eternity (Remix)" - This is a slightly chopped down remix of the originally released "Eternity". There aren't very many obvious changes, except for a half-step key change and the addition of panning/dolby. "Ice River v4.0" - Yes, I had to rewrite this 4+ times to get it how I liked it. Special thanks to MrDestroyer/TDT for the very slick river/thunder samples. "Atomic Power" - Written originally for a loader for my friend Syntax Error/iCE, sysop of the PowerGrid BBS. Since the loader never quite made it (ahem), I figured I couldn't leave it on the shelves any longer ;) "Andante" - Cheesy? I don't know, some people think so. It's a bit mundane, but I think it sounds nice and the string arrangements are kinda interesting. I guess it depends whether you like the slow piano/strings style. ───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── │■ WHAT ARE THESE .DSM FILES?? ■│ ───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── A DigiSound Module is our own format developed by Pelusa. We have developed this format in use with DigiSound Interface Kit that is used in this disk. DigiSound Modules are smaller than normal mods due to pattern compression. They also share some common ideas with S3M files as in they use amplification. Basically though, the DSM's are ProTracker compliant modules with a few added features. All playing code and Sound Blaster code was written in assembly by Pelusa. Gravis UltraSound support was coded by Vernor. ───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── │■ LEGAL STUFF ■│ ───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── The Psychic Monks bear no responsibility for damage that the software may cause to the user's audio or computer equipment.
