Wired will be a party you really won't want to forget. ║ ║ Enjoy your ride... and see you there. ║ ║ -Darkness (Imphobia) ║ ║ ║ btw. will you find the secret part? ║ ║ ╓────────────────────────── ── ──╖ ║ ║ TECHNiCAL NOTES ABOUT THiS REPORT ╠════════════════════════════════════════╣ ╙────────────────────────── ── · ─╜ ║ (And Statix's personalised bit of the nfo file :)) ║ ║ ■ Minimum system requirement: ║ ║ 486DX (but pentium is needed really!) ║ VGA (VESA2 will look much nicer) ║ Mouse ║ 13M RAM (It is very hard to make it run in less than 12M! >16M is best) ║ Most major sound cards are supported ║ ║ ║ I was having some problems with PMODE/W and some new ATI SVGA cards, and ║ also with some PS/2 style mice. All these problems go away if you run ║ under WIN95, or use DOS4G/W. (Type DOS4GW W97INV2 to run this way) ║ ║ If you have a slow machine or low memory, look at the command line options║ to find out how to adjust some parameters to make it run on your machine. ║ ║ Firstly you will need plenty of RAM (>12 Megs) and UNIVBE 5.2 or so to ║ use the 15/16 bit colour modes. This demo runs entirely in 15/16 bit ║ colour using the Linear Frame Buffer of your VGA card. It uses perspective║ correct polys, texture cached lighting and a portal based engine. I made ║ everything from scratch, including complete keyframer, level editor, ║ engine & tmapper in about 6 weeks (plus a gap for my university exams). ║ The textures are stored in a proprietry JPEG like form to save you some ║ downloading time ;) The lighting is raytraced during the intro slideshow. ║ ║ Because this was such a short time (this project has more code than 303 ║ and Paper put together) there are many things missing, like better ║ collision detection (no bugs!) more dynamic lighting etc etc. But I hope ║ you like the result anyway! ║ ║ Oh and before I forget, the complete level editor, texture editor, etc is ║ included as a secret part... but even if you find it it's very nasty to ║ use! <grin> ║ ║ Thanks also to Jay Foad - I asked him (taking the piss) to code me a ║ texture cache allocation routine - and he did in it under 4 hours. Thanks ║ Jay! And of course, Jay is the best coder I have ever met... ║ ║ The music system is IMS by Pascal (Nik Beisert) and let me tell you, it's ║ really a lovely system to use. Soon it will be perfect! I must thank ║ Pascal a lot for all the cool chats on IRC and the help he has given me. ║ ║ And did you notice the dynamic reverbing? :) ║ ║ If you are having problems making it run, you may need the /t n parameter,║ where n is a number - 50 is the default. A lower number is needed for ║ machines with small amounts of RAM. (and sometimes a higher number will ║ help! Experiment!) ║ The higher the texture resolution, the nicer it looks. Go on, treat ║ yourself! Go and buy another 8 megs of SIMMS ... ║ ║ Finally I will use the coder's prerogative and make some personal greets: ║ Hi to: Chris Killpack, Graham Walker, Simon Poliakoff and Woody for all ║ the moral support/bugreports/patience. Glenn Corpes/Bullfrog for the small║ font and general wonderousness. Peanut for predicting my failure in the ║ exams. Darkness for asking me to do this in the first place.PL and Vic for║ putting up with me. The guys on #coders who talk to me. Findus for being ║ a dirty old man. Joanne for being the bright yellow ruler of the universe.║ Aap for banging on about Designers Republic, and being totally insane. ║ Basehead for still having faith.Dune for being a really cool/talented guy!║ Oi Optix: Nooooooo! Tony Cox/Bullfrog for being the one everyone loves to ║ hate, persuading me to do maths, and ferrying me to / from work: Thanks! ║ Lamb and Leftfield for brilliant albums to code to. Olive for one of the ║ best live gigs I've been to... Hmm, I think that's more than enough! ║ ║ "Life is just a dream we had.... of reality" - Lamb ║ ║ -Statix ║ ║ ╓──────────────────────────── ── ──╖ ║ ║ INTERACTIVE MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA ╠══════════════════════════════════════╣ ╙──────────────────────────── ── · ─╜ ║ ║ - Use the left mouse button to go forwards. ║ ║ - Press "A" to use the autopilot (you lazy person!) ║ ║ - Use the left and right SHIFT keys to scroll the info on the television ║ screens. ║ ║ - When at the race start, press R to start the race (see below) ║ ║ - ESC to quit, or to leave race mode when racing. ║ ║ Can you find the secret part(s)? There might even be a prize to be had... ║ ║ ║ COMMAND LINE PARAMETERS: ║ ║ /t n sets the texture cache resolution; default n=50. Use lower numbers ║ for faster loading or if you have low ram size. ║ ║ /q selects quiet mode (no music) ║ ║ /f switches off the lens flare and ship's fire trail (for slow machines ║ or hires mode) ║ ║ /n to skip the intro/exit bitmaps part, in case you are *REALLY* short ║ on RAM! Note that running this in 12M or less is almost impossible. ║ If you really want to try hard, type: SET DOS4GVM=1 to enable dos4gw ║ virtual memory and then run the demo with dos4gw. This is untested ║ and if it doesn't work, the only solution is to get some more RAM! ║ ║ ╓────────────────── ── ──╖ ║ ║ HiPPY COMMUNE PRODUCTiONS ╠════════════════════════════════════════════════╣ ╙────────────────── ── · ─╜ ║ ║ Many people have recently asked me (Statix) what group I am in. Acme? ║ Psychic Link? Well, I suppose I am in both, and neither! The fact is, ║ I just like making demos with my friends, and it gets rather tiring ║ to explain to people all the time that I am in no group really... ║ ║ For this reason, after talking to some people on IRC, I decided (only ║ half seriously?) to make a new "label", rather like a record label. ║ ║ After all, in these modern times of the demo scene, it seems that the ║ idea of a label under which artists release stuff is more appropriate ║ than the rigid structure of a group. (Associativity, inverse, closure and ║ identity... Damn! Maths) (I guess the music groups have been doing this ║ for some time now...) ║ ║ And so Hippy Commune productions was born. I release this invitro under ║ that label, and urge you to include it on your productions to give ║ support to this movement! Anybody who wants to can use this name - I ║ am not going to try and control anything in any way. It's a commune ║ after all! ;) ║ ║ - Statix ║ ║ ╓────────────────── ── ──╖ ║ ║ THE FiLES OF THiS ARCHiVE ╠════════════════════════════════════════════════╣ ╙────────────────── ── · ─╜ ║ ║ The files included in W97_inv2.zip should be as follows: ║ ║ w97inv2 .exe Intro executable file ║ lemon .pak Intro data file ║ pinapple.pak Intro data file ║ grape .pak Intro data file ║ raddish .pak Intro data file ║ ║ file_id .diz File description for bbs's ║ invdemo .nfo This .nfo file ║ w97nfo21.txt Wired'97 information file ║ cheaptrn.txt How to travel cheaper by train inside Belgium ║ map_car .gif Map if you travel by train + bus ║ map_bus .gif Map if you travel by car ║ trips .txt bus trips organised to Wired'97. dreamscd.zip Imphobia's Dreams CD infofile ║ ║ ║ ╓─────── ── ──╖ ║ ║ WIN THE RACE ! ╠═══════════════════════════════════════════════════════════╣ ╙─────── ── · ─╜ ║ ║ Included in this invitro is a little racing game, in case you get bored! ║ (why would that happen?) It is really very simple, due to lack of time. ║ ║ You must simply race around the level, touching the 5 checkpoints in ║ order (So be sure to find them before you start the race!). ║ ║ You will be racing against computer players - when you find them, press ║ R to start the race. Good luck! ║ ║ (This is a shit game, but who cares? it's just for fun - and this is a ║ meant to be a demo! remember? :)) Unfortunately there was no time to work ║ on the AI of the computer players.
