Audiovisual particles of dreamlike realism and abstract shapes coming and going in tidal waves, and once immersion has fully settled in, this could go on and last forever, but at some point it painfully remembers you that this is an invitation, but it does this gently like an awakening. Utterly fantastic.

The real MFX demo of the compo. Mesmerizing.

I think your demo glitched out there pal.
No worries though, happens to the best of us!!11 :D <3

It drew me in more and more until I was immersed like I never had been before by a demo, this was amazing!

OK one for me.
I hope (for you) it will be listed and properly mentionned in the WIKI.
Joooking. ;)

what gargaj will say... thus a piggy
I'm not sure how much seeing this at 5am impacted the experience, but it was absolutely amazing. Meticulously executed glitches, design and vibe. Can't wait to run it.

It impressed me in the compo with the well-executed glitching, but by 5am my brain was so melted I could not look at this without feeling sick. I don't think it's the fault of the demo, just the time of day it was shown.

Masterpiece!

This is some really done glitch; I'd say this as an example of glitch done right.
Now I'm wondering if this is what you were aiming for back then with Anoxia Redux?

As for this entry, the whole build up works really well. LJ's comment describes quite well my experience as well. It feels there's an underlying message or idea, that I couldn't quite grasp unfortunately. As a very minor flaw, I think it started to drag at some point and as a result it felt just a bit too long, though without overstaying its welcome.
However for as much I liked this entry, I thought it didn't work as an invitation.

This one is a statement.

Kudos to for the music. It seems like culmination of ps efforts in noise genre. And ofc "flawless" glitches by Navis.

Should have won (obviously).

Magnficent. There's a beautiful vibe to it - it feels like it's alive and in motion somehow, like there's absolute perfection below all the glitch and the noise. Like a very simple painting by a master painter.
rulez added on the 2024-10-07 13:55:49 by Preacher Preacher
I'd be curious to hearing more about how you managed the glitches to feel so entropic!?! PS ost is also a perfect fit. Sublime!

PS contacted me after Revision 2024 to start working on an invitation for Inercia 2005, and I said I'd consider a simple "typography heavy" production ala moppi ASM 2004.

But cardinal rule of demomaking - never plan how it ends, because it always takes you to completely new paths.
Original idea was a much more mellow "fly-over"ish over videos with large text floating around real scenes. I tried a few things but they lacked a soul or urgency in progression. So it was time to go a bit dark.

The dark part - let it be a bigger production (over 4 mins) that takes its time to unwind. Then use "in your face" typography (which eventually was reduced) and lots of glitching based on: 1) a blue noise dithering pass 2) uv reshuffling 3) constant frame to frame positive and negative feedback with extreme chroma saturation and other spatial and color transformations and 4) lots and lots of "if then else" over time to ensure that the end result doesn't blow up to white (or black).

I filmed some short vigniettes while on holidays (some sea and park scenes) and those pixels run some of the effects in a completely unrelated connection (for example some transformations of feedback), and this works because the videos are random enough but still "organically" moving to ensure that the movement follows some structured looking path.

There were many slight iterations of the visuals and the music. Ps put together two tracks that we liked for the first and second part, with a "zen" moment in the middle - the point where you finally get to read some stable typography that tells you about the Inercia party. The general concept, then, would be:

Chaos, desolation, emptyness, much like the state of the universe in trillions of years.
A sun may be born out of random fluctuations and give rise to a unique local fractal world - that carries memories of our current world, the water / plants / memories and humans.
All glitched by the corruption of time and cosmic rays.
Holding to the last fleeting "echoes" of what it once was is ... a memory of ... Graphics ! Music ! Portugal !... A spike in time, and like a dream it goes back to the endless road to oblivion.

This is the fourth time we work with Ps and his mesmerizing tracks! While it may not work as a great invitation, I'm content that it may serve its purpose in some other way...

Interesting. I understood it completely differently: I thought I was viewing the world from the eyes of another entity, as if this was telling the story of some sentient electronic system.

Fascinating and hypnotic. Gave me Satori vibes (hugs to zden). Perfect execution as always (we're blessed to have ASD ppl among us). And that track is pushing some real mood. Contratz Navis and PS and thank you.

I was amazed when I saw this in the compo. Must be the most perfect noise I've seen in a long time. :) super satisfying, if that makes any sense.

this is one of these productions you definitely have to watch realtime. preferrebly in a dark room. with a great soundsystem. late at night. (oh, wait ;)
totally mezmerizing and sucks you into the screen. perfect glitch demo!
and perfect satori demo which doesn't have the satori label on it ;)

too long, too glitchy, too flashy, I can't stand it.
thumb goes for the effort.

This aesthetic comes 10+ years late. Typography doesn’t really work properly for me, mainly due to bad choice of font. Otherwise, an interesting and unique dreamy prod that gives off that Wenders’ “Until the End of the World” vibe.

absolutely amazing, best work from ASD in the past ten years ago or so, and quite possibly the best demo this year. haunting, austere, and honest. some of the most beautiful imagery i've seen come out of a graphics card (paired together with sound) in a long time.

is what i would've said at least, until the tacked on invitro portion kicked in. certainly soured the mood and overall impression, but... eh, it's still really good, i love it. i just wish it didn't try to advertise something to me, despite the thing advertised being something i have nothing against obviously.

!!!

beautiful experience, that I didn't expect when launching the demo (*ahem* when clicking "play" on youtube actually).

This is beautiful.

I'm usually not into noise soundtrack but this time it did work for me (probably thanks to the strong connection with the visuals).
The visuals... they are just perfect, I'm speechless.

Possibly my favorite demo of the recent years.

It was also a downer for mewhen I realised it was an invitation. The artwork felt suddenly less noble ; I felt betrayed or something.
I wish there was a version without the advertising 😇.

Thanks for this piece <3

Right kind of noise. Gives just enough structure for mid-level information processors of the brain: we recognize subtle text there, some human here, and that's a tree & music has just enough harmony and rhythm to give our sound processors something to chew on. Yet at the same time, there is no higher level structure: these fleeting sensations quickly drift away and our actively thinking parts of the brain can just shut down.

I get what noby doesn't like, but I actually think it's pretty genius to make it as an invitation. Because just when your brain has resetted and your mind is clear, then boom, the demo sneakily installs new software there: you want to go to the inercia demoparty. I get that being mind controlled feels bad, but to me pulling off this trick was so great that I just have to appreciate the magic behind it.

Didn't have the brain for it anymore in the compo night, but upon rewatch this is clearly my favourite of the compo, and in my opinion one of the best glitch demos ever. I can just 100% agree with Bifat here.
