One nitpick: One can really see that the whole intro is one shader, and I'd have wished for a but more complexity or conscious direction - but apart from that it's a fun ride, well made and well synced.

Fun and exciting little package, with proper 60fps on common GPUs. The compo winner slugs along in ~20 fps and doesn't look half as cool. Oh well :)
I never understood where this idea of requiring 60fps on toasters came from. Would you rather have eyecandy in the compos, at the boundaries of what's possible with the beefy compo hardware, or do you prefer to let the majority of the available 40 teraflops idle, just so it doesn't lag on low-end hardware? The latter just doesn't make any sense to me at all.

As you can tell, it's true I lean towards what runs on more average hardware so I can enjoy it on my own machines, but I didn't mean it can't exceed that. My critique was more on not understanding why it was so slow given what was on display. It excels on cinematography and music, not exactly graphics per se, IMO.

miragept: I didn't mean to flame, I think it's a valid argument saying that prod X looks better while rendering faster than prod Y - for that relative comparison you can pick hardware arbitrarily and the argument will work. All I'm saying is, I'm kinda tired of the thumbdowns "because it lags here." Lots of options available in that case: Buy better hardware, watch it on YouTube or run it in 720p. Demos are made for the hardware the compo is run on.

I know the performance is considered ok if the demo runs smoothly on the compo machine. But I still wanted the executable to deliver decent fps to as many people as possible, so I worked on several optimizations towards that. I also don't think it should be taken into account when comparing it to other productions, but anyway I'm happy I achieved my goal and that someone pointed it out.
