making this prod was a ton of fun! overall, took about three weeks of work in the evenings.
the first step in the journey was to get data to the watch. back in the day, the upload worked by flashing a CRT monitor with software that only ran on win95. LCD monitors and post XP windows versions simply don't work. I ended up reverse engineering the communication protocol framing and building some external hardware to blink an LED with proper timing in order to transmit data. luckily I found old third party software which could generate the communication protocol bitstreams, so I didn't need to do that.
a lot of the ROM routines of the watch were already reverse engineered in 90s, but some critical stuff was lacking regarding the EEPROM handling. to figure those out, I dumped parts of the ROM onto the LCD of the watch, and typed the bytes into a disassembler. i've never felt as much like a hacker.
all that said, as a demo the end result isn't that spectacular. i'm very surprised and a bit ashamed that this won instead of Chrome Revenge.

It is difficult to compare apples to pears. What you have done, it's also a very crazy thing! Definitely real wild demo product.
Our intro was not a real wild product, it's a size restricted intro. Should have shown at 1k compo. Unfortunately the compo team did not dare to change the rules, though they also felt they should.
Another difference between the 2 projects. You needed about 3 weeks to made this, but we needed many years to achieve that old dream. :-)
