Extremely impressive demo showing that nowadays the only barrier between AGA and PC demos may be just different resolution;) If it was PC demo I would still love it as visuals are simply beautiful (esp particles and kaleidoscope). Good syncing with music makes thrilling atmosphere (eg in particles part). Ghostown + Haujobb seems to be killing mixture - great job!

Youtube from the real thing? It looks like the framerate is really high. I thought the final zoomer and some of the radial blurring were the most thrilling effects.

Nice to see some palette tweaking too! All amiga demos should have this.

Demo won't run correctly installed on FFS/PFS partitions due to filename lenght limitation. You'll have to manually change the filename ending of four files in the data folder (.trac -> .track)

But nontheless its a very great Demo! Nice colours and nice clear and crisp 2D graphics! love it! Really refreshing :)

Well, I guess a lot have been already well written here.

From me, I wish to say, that the demo is too short. The music is so atmospheric that I wish the demo's first part could have last at least twice as longer.
The second music theme is great as well.

Next time, please do make your prods longer.

Thank you, dewdz.

Thanks everyone for the kind words <3

Going to RKLE was an awesome experience, again. So many releases on such a "small" (about 170 visitors IIRC) party is just incredible. If you extrapolated this for Revision, the Amiga compo would have to last for several hours! Anyway, we are slowly coming back to the project to make the final version.

In the mean-time, here is: Beam Riders "making of", a gource visualisation of our repository commits from start in July to fixed compo-version in October. I have never seen this kind of visualisation in a demo-scene context and tought it would be nice to share with you in case you wonder what coders were doing (and when).

Beam Riders v1.2 has just been released (download-link updated). 32 MB Fast, 512 KB Chip, 68020+ w. FPU, any Chipset.

This version adds OCS support! If no AGA is detected, the demo automatically falls back to OCS, making it work on any sufficiently expanded Amiga model. You still want to run it on 68060+, though!
added on the 2018-03-31 21:04:21 by noname noname
Lol. I betcha we're going to see some emulator capture and the scene will pretend that "there really is an OCS machine with 68060 and 32MB out there".

If Pouet adds an OCS/ECS tag to this it's plain wrong. And quite revealing.
added on the 2018-03-31 21:48:11 by Photon Photon
Behold. Never heard of accelerators for A2000 and A3000 like the the good old Blizzard 2060? Also, here is a video running it live on a souped up A1000. So there. Let me lol at you now.
added on the 2018-03-31 22:16:19 by noname noname
Link means it happened. "Pretend that there really is an OCS machine with 68060 and 32MB out there" is a number of machines so close to 0 that it stands the test of time ;) Lol was about emulator capture vs. yay OCS. A3000 isn't OCS, but whatever.

Aca500plus with Blizzard 1260 actually works.
added on the 2018-04-01 03:47:51 by teo teo
I actually changed my mind about this.

1260 does not work on OCS. You need a custom Kickstart made, and then you must still degrade the card to be compatible with the OS. An OCS machine with 030+FPU, 040 or 060 and 32MB is currently a combination that conspires to reduce the number of machines in the world to virtually 0.

So the target platform struck me as strange. But I belieb in Jens :) My statement will not stand the test of time! In the future there will be 060 accelerators for everyone! And besides, nothing wrong with a port.
added on the 2018-04-01 14:25:23 by Photon Photon
OK. But please stop mixing up chipset and CPU-OS-compatibility for the sake of your argument. It is perfectly possible to have OCS/ECS chipset with a fast CPU/FPU and a lot of RAM. You would problably have Kickstart 3.0 or higher in the computer then. IIRC ACA500 comes with Kickstart 3.1.

Also, the Apollo 2030 from 1991, amongst others, should be able to run Beam Riders just fine. So we do not have to wait for the "future". It was already here.
added on the 2018-04-01 16:59:15 by noname noname
My Amiga 2000 with a Blizzard 2060 approves the OCS version.

This expansion runs in my A2000 for almost 20 years, and it's completely "end user" hardware, no soldering, no homemade hacks, no crazy adapters, no hanging-out-the-side-of-the-machine expansion, no overclocking, no patched Kickstarts or anything. Plug it and go. And now I'm even more proud to have it, because it also proves that Photon hasn't got a clue.

So here, have another thumb up, just for the OCS support alone. Thank you. I'm gonna watch the fuck out of it.

Wonderful music, graphics and palettes. No glitches when watching and the sync works. The effects are great-looking, but on 060/50 some of them are painfully slow to watch. The amount of people with an 060 is low and the 60 MHz-plus ones disappearingly so, which makes me think that perhaps too much is expected of this platform.
rulez added on the 2018-04-15 10:52:38 by grip grip
Another BB Image for the less memory consuming final, plus the OCS downward compatibility

What! The atmosphere in this demo is so insane! For a moment I thought I was watching a modern version of Desert Dream. The part where the music is synced to the white track sliding through space combined to switching back and forth with the ball scene is seriously one the greatest things I have seen in demos. The music works so well with the visuals in this scene. No need for text and messages to state your badass attitude!

nice prod. but running it is superweird in my case - a4000, stock 040/25 + 64mb mod.
crashes with aga on (both wb & sseq)
runs with only aga turned off @ bootmenu

Blast!: The OCS version looks very similar. Just a bit more color banding and bit stronger dither. So probably you will only see more noise and artefacts on Youtube...

Beautiful. More OCS content please!

And i guess the future is now because it works nicely on an A500+ with emu68 (emulated overclocked to buggery 040+fpu)
