Yes, it's a plasma. Reminds me of the old DOS days and the 160x100 double pixel resolutions..
resolution was a tradeoff.. code more to your liking might be the 499 byte version, link in the corner.
I prefer the colours in this version than the 499 byte version to be honest, I would have liked to see it in a less blocky resolution too. Quite ok though.

doomed: A trade off for what ? It's not 1999 anymore. It should have occurred to you that you picked the wrong approach if the current one can't produce a decent framerate at a higher resolution than 32 by 32
