Perfect demo. Love the pipes.

I wish i were cool enough to make something like this. stunning!
great one. should win the compo.
Great art and effects!
I could write a long and elaborate rant about FLT's chronic consistency issues here, but naaah. Great visuals, good music, what do you need more.
hm, the d3dx9_36.dll that comes in the zip made vista moan, if you get the one from dll-files.com and overwrite it, this one works ok in vista.
nice graphics, looked like a professional demoreel done realtime. the con of that is that it also made the scenes rather disconnected tbh. but still, swell artwork!

Very polished. I liked everything except the exploding heads.
This prod. took me! From the original FLT sound while showing the FLT logo at the beginning. The TBL logo (first time seeing this on a PC though ;-) To the fresh, shiny, sharp and summer feel it gave me! The exploding heads.... (why is CNCD written on one head?) The 'cartoonish part' , nice uplifting music with some speech, and than the smoke in the landscape, the wall with gravity's (isn't Sunflower a dead pc group nowadays? :) Nice logo's at the end.. Is everything in this demo exclusively made for his demo or also used elsewhere in real life stuff? Ah who cares.. This is my new fav. demo!! Pantaloon + Louie500 now enter the NVscene demo compo please ;-) Respect! Thumb!
so much art and code leetness!
Nice rendering
Some parts are beautiful.
nice effects !!!!
video capture anyone? :)
the music actually keeps this one together, else it would REALLY fall apart. the blob scene was flickering like a maniac here.
I had to remove the d3dx9_36.dll to get it started. Besides that, very nice demo! Great scenes and effects.
wäri neis
Crazy stuff, has some beautiful scenes - but maybe there are some continuity things going on. Well thumbs up for graphics, code and soundtrack!
Nice. Especially the "smoke" scene. But overall quite average (well for you guys). The whole thing lacks some kind of climax and as it was already said is quite incoherent in design.
better delete the d3dx9_36.dll on vista. Stylish and incoherent. And good music.
woha. nice indeed!
Very well done of course, incoherence be damned.
HQ production !
Good one, very nice Music
d--O_o--b
nice work pantaloon and the rest. i finally got to see the fluid in motion and it was awesome.
meh
Cool ideas, especially the pipe in the beginning rules :)
Nice graphics, but somewhat incoherent - also I wonder that there wasn't a bit more timing, since the music was really up to that.
However, a very solid thumb of course.

stunning down to the smallest detail.
music was very mediocre d&b for me though, but still gave that floating and airy feeling to the demo very well.
aww shucks i'm in love with the whole demo, absolutely awesome <3

Every single one of the fairlight intel competition demos is a star, and this is no exception.
Great music... Great design... Great code...
Near perfect...
Near perfect...
The effects are absolutely awesome. Hopefully this one or Still will win the compo.
wow
video ?
see the comments wie8 :)
Looks pretty good. I didn't create any emotions whatsoever though. Maybe I should watch it again
WOW - technically very impressive !!!
My favourite Fairlight PC demo. Fresh and mellow.
Just wow, that was fantastic
music definitely ties the whole thing together, even though it seems to be a bit uneventful (the music that is).
visuals seemed a bit random, but some scenes were just great. liked the "2d vector" style and the particles/smoke ones best.
definitely rules though.

Some very good stuff in there, music is just awesome! Is crashing on me when i increase aa samples though...
slow on my dual 2ghz xeon, 1.5gb ram and gt6800. guess i need to upgrade to see this beauty properly. :|
nice!
Crisp visuals, entertaining soundtrack.
A bit like a designers' showcase, but isn't the meaning of demoscene after all ?

nice
total niceness
absolutely gorgeous, both audio & visual-wise!
sweet stuff!!
amazing
also had to remove the d3dx9_36.dll first...guess its when you have installed a newer version already ( or the newest DirectX SDK with d3dx9_37.dll in my case )
rating later.
rating later.
That's my number one. Visually and technically a blast. The only scene which I didn't like was this comic alike heads/helicopter/etc. mess.
Nice mixture of design and effects, liked the music too. Ended too abruptly..
my eyes are in love
nice
HOT!
liked it alot, especially the soundtrack.
pretty damn cool
Absolutely stunning! Loved every second of it!
very nice effects, good sound and overall the most convincing prod in this compo for me.
wow. jaw-dropping.
cool, but not awesome.
oh man, the design, the concept... no words
I liked it!
Ahh, thanks, got it working.
Have to admit, it's not as good as the MFX prod, but it's still damn fine. Runs as sweet as silk. :D

Nice!
A side note: I had to delete the directx dll to get it to work. I already had all the proper dlls installed anyway.. [XP SP3 machine]
Same here. directx dll comes with demo doesn't work. I had to delete it too. Oh and demo.. it rulez
Is the outline scene suposed to look like a tatoo? It looks like one to me...
Oh boy, this is one gorgeous looking demo! The design work is superb and the logo scenes really kicked ass!
The music was too repetetive for my liking, however.
The music was too repetetive for my liking, however.
Even better than Eat My Bollocks by The Lost Boys.
Very nice design and impressive effects.
pipes were awesome, the rest was plain old fairlight to me.
WOW
binary don't work for me (application is improperly installed!)
but holy shit this demo reminded me what a all-round masterpiece production looks like
but holy shit this demo reminded me what a all-round masterpiece production looks like
Nice.
this would have been a great amiga demo.
humor aside, this is very good stuff, the inconsistency is yes, very irritating, but the pipes looks really good, and the concrete world - effect is very impressive. i'd love to see you do something more consistent, but then again, this is the demoscene, we're allowed to do whatever we want, but still it nags me that you have such great potensial, and dont utilize it properly! (damn you)

jesus
the d3dx9_36.dll in the zip caused the program to fail to load, removing it fixed the problem. liked the visuals, the smoke effect was nice, the music not so much
Smoke is the new ribbon. Fairlight, I love you.
and here is the winner of the compo ! ^^
my opinnion ! ^^
my opinnion ! ^^
looks like a great prod, though I get the error others have mentioned. Tried deleting d3dx9_36.dll, no effect for me. Pity. :(
great works!
the blobs scene are good.
anyway, nice one this.

Loved the smoke, but some scene were just repeated to much. Almost smashed esc in the intro.
And the music isn't my favo
And the music isn't my favo
Sure, it may be a bit disconnected (but just a bit, not the flamboyant mix of a thousand styles as some suggest here), but it is still f---ing solid. The pipes (love the welding-points) are alone the most original idea I have seen in a demo this year (it might be from something at XPLSV.tv for all I know, but I choose to think not :). I don't really love the music (too uneventful, but still well made) but not really something that pulls it down as a whole. The smoke and blobby effects look really good, but I can't help but think that some different camera angles would have elevated them both. Still, a lot of details (shadows on both of those two effects, the greetings spread throughout in different elements etc.) make this a solid, solid demo - perhaps the best in the compo.
yep. kick flippin ass on my brand new q9300 in 1680 on my 9800gtx :D ... perhaps the best of the compo.
I must say, that after listening to the soundtrack again, t really ties everything nicely together and kick ass, basicly.
Awesome stuff.
I like every part of it
cool :)
Please don't use the proprietary and incompatible WMV format for videos.
The demo was okay, the part in the screenshot being the best.
The demo was okay, the part in the screenshot being the best.
I was very surprised by this, its fresh design is great although at first glance it appeared a bit unconnected, nice effects and graphics, I quite like the music and it fit the demo perfectly.
Awesome stuff, only part I didn't like was the buttons at the start, which is good but perhaps not to my taste.
Looks polished all the way through, although it still lacks some kind of theme perhaps. I thought the still demo was as good on the whole, even though this has way better effects and graphics, and I guess that's the effect of the solid theme and continuity in the still one. Maybe the pipe scene could be slower too... it looks cool, but I don't get enough time to appreciate it :)
Overall I reckon it's a good step forwards for flt.. the quality is still stunning, but it looks properly finished :)
I'm getting some nasty glitches though with the fluid and smoke scenes - basically, the 'front' of the object (where it's growing) flickers like a bitch, but the rest of the object is fine. I'm probably on old drivers though, so I'll give it a try with some newer ones. That's on ATI 2600.
I also had to delete the dll to get it to load.

very nice demo, a but top much technic demonstration, but hey it's a demo
well, for me it is a solid demo - but nothing more. the effects are solid but boring staged. the music is solid but a bit uninspired. some graphics are nice, some are ugly. a weak thumb up (mainly for the mood).
Slick, polished, stylish.
Disjoint and stylish at the same time.
And somebody read a couple of eurographics 2008 papers :)
And somebody read a couple of eurographics 2008 papers :)
also, is it just me, or is the whole thing very t-shirt-inspired?
Very awesome.
One tip is, if it doesn't launch and you have a relatively up to date driver set, just delete the dx dll in the folder. Worked for me anyway! :)

double thumbs up! although the music could have been better...
Oh, and bonus thumb for the Bill Hicks quote at the end. :)
Shiny graphics, and a non-trivial effect. My favourite scene is the second smoke scene here the smoke actually looks like smoke. Excellent cartoon-part too. I hope this one wins.
Graphic design rocks.
Music is so boring I had to struggle to watch this from A to Z :(
Music is so boring I had to struggle to watch this from A to Z :(
Rocks BIG time!
xeNusion: elaborate.
Bill Hicks quote? Not thumb from me then!
This was cool, not a big fan of the music but the volumetric effects were impressive. Those pipes were pretty hot too.
wow
Very nice !
Excellent design and a cool soundtrack, but it feels like a big mess. All the parts work out great individually but in the end it's just a loose collage I wouldn't watch too many times.
rc55: xen rarely elaborates.
the thumb
very nice. I had to delete the *.36.dll for it to work aswell
and the thumb
i dont think i need to do it. but just for you:
it bored me.
its the same conventional structure like on dozends of demos since the early 90s...
lots of scenes with switching content and no real consistency, connection
perhaps only a detail but the cubemap really facehugged me!
its a cubemap of a rather dark room and for sure not of the surrounding scene.
the static 2d layer frame...
i doubt it should still be used at 2008.
didnt watched it until the end so i dont know who is responsible for it but i would rather prefer abit more of the smash factor next time
instead of this oldfashioned noninspiring stuff.

love this! it really made me smile - the buttons the toys - its like a bit of happiness in a digital form :) and is that a bike frame?
can I have the tune?
can I have the tune?
fogot
The bike frame scene is super cool...also like the smoke. A great demo, but lacks some coherence that the other prods have. For that reason, not my favorite of the compo, but respect nonetheless!
Lovely
really nice, i like the style.
Some of the scenes seems a bit disconnected, but the music manages to tie this together. Looks really good nevertheless.
Style!
Nice (fuck for wmv-video)
Love it! I'm a bitch for Louie's artwork and even though the demo itself is quite incoherent, I love it, I love it, I love it! I would buy a shirt with the cartoon stuff on it in a heartbeat!
Like a lot of people apparently, I liked the pipes (particularly the welding -- the organic-looking parts of constructed objects are often neglected, so it was refreshing). I was also sort of relieved when the graffiti wall came up, since it got a bit cleaner. Much of the demo had parts that were kind of random and I didn't care for much.. Like people in gasmasks falling apart into triangles... not sure where these cliches came from. This was the most cliched compo I've seen in a long time.
Quote:
also, is it just me, or is the whole thing very t-shirt-inspired?
Yes, yes it does :) Then again, street-art and apparel go together like peanut butter and blood, so yeah..
It just didn't do anything for me, and i usually love TBL/Fairlight stuff. Sorry guys, just a piggy for now, maybe it'll grow on me.
Liked it very much. Especially the music!
What's not to love about this demo? It's absolute GOLD! :)
Style + Technic - Direction = Thumb up
SMOKE FX outside a cube!! It is official. The evil spell has been broken.
All parts are great. Exploding heads ..*head explodes*
All parts are great. Exploding heads ..*head explodes*
wow :)
dude, this is like ten demos in one! while i'm really annoyed by productions that just stack disconnected fx sequences (and this one clearly does!) one has to love the wonderful ideas slideshowed in this one. i especially dig the excellent streetart character sequence and the 2d vector compositings. i can only hope that you guys make one coherent production out of one of those awesome styles. feel free to leave out the dull 3d heads with gas masks though ;) ...
Horribly bland music. Two effects - great but overdone.
Rulez because it looked shiny.

Reinforcing my belief in the demoscene. My sincere thanks for this.
I salute you.
I salute you.
doesnt run on my machine :( but the vid was good, wanted to see it on full screen. I dont think these 5 demos inspired me too much however they were good. Waiting for Nvidias batch

Something you could expect from these groups: good quality. Great visuals, but the bass is missing from the dnb.
that demo really tied the room together
ko prod and great design and effects but the overall lack of coherency and emotions
good stuff, but never gets mindblowing in any way ... just good stuff ;)
Far from great, but still a solid production. Sound were the weakest point in this one.
amazing stuff! interesting styles,
but too many different ones
in the same box, imho.
it falls apart, although the tune
glues all a bit together.
many hands and minds piling up
a bunch of excellent work, i guess.
every scene has its strengths,
but at the end, the whole is
less than the sum of its parts.

yeah, great demo.. but that...
cute, but a bit boring soundtrack. without amiga tbl loses some charm, but it's still pleasant to watch.
too bad the audio is decoded so strangely it doesn't work here on linux... plz don't use wma :)
thec: use mplayer + win32 codec pack.
Anyway, this is let down by some mediocre parts (e.g. the badges), but overall the style is fucking awesome. I love the welded pipes part. This is the essence of what I would call 'demo'.

doesnt get through to me.
some parts are extremely good looking and there are enough cool effects to keep me interested. The soundtrack could need some more drive and better syncing to whats going on visually. But good show, all in all
nagato^: I tried. but capped.tv worked so I could finally see this with audio. typical fairligts style from lately but netherless, it's good stuff.
Simply awesome! Just have to watch it one more time now...
I still want the music, and link to the author page too plz
ace
BANG!!!!

good work! but walls with graffiti are boring as hell... time to get new ideas.
great stuff!
Good show.
does not even start here (unknown exe format or smth?)

@Panatloon: is the smoke made from post-process blended spheres (ie blurred geometry)?

Best prod of this compo, in my opinion.
Awesome style, great atmosphere.

I'm disapointed, fisrt off all i had to change the d3d9_36.dll the one in the archive seems to be bad.
SMASH did all the last FLT Demos i was happy to see one By PANTALOON but despite the fact that there is lot of works in this demos,
i expected so much that i'm very unsatisfied
i loved the smog effect though .
so piggy for this one !
Waiting hardly for the next one Pantaloon :)

Excellent demo - Excellent music! yeay!
great track and style. the first scene is pure bliss <3
whoa? tbl on pc?? no way!
Yeah must say not very impressed Im afraid. The dismantling of the high-polycount models didnt really do it for me, however the strong point was absolutely the button-intro, which was very well done, although a little lengthy for my taste.
the shit!
Very nice
extremely fresh stuff, but a bit too slow paced and repetitive at times. although every scene looks good it is all too disconnected, and I expected even more from the involved people
Still gives me this mixed feeling with late flt demos, where some scene don't fit (the breaking polygon scene was a bit too long imho). Though the art, gfx and effects where extraordinary. There are a lot of stuff that I like here like the cylinder mapping on the tubes, the cell shaded(?) artistic objects, the beginning with the colorful thingies, and the smoke thing effect. This is a demo as in demo.
@pantaloon: thanks. yeah I was trying something similar. Missed the trick with sharpened normals which I guess means each pass is unconditional whereas I was doing a conditional blur (to retain normals at the edge of geometry) and that was slow. Kudos.
definately a thumb.. especially the music and the pipe scene did it for me.. also very nice 2d art.. somewhat incoherent, but i love it.. seriously ;
fuckin' great :)
heckuva
Wow, very good.
good!
slow rubbish code and cool design. piggy.
also had to delete d3dx9_36.dll on XP --> please do not include that next time :D
good demo, visuals and music are fitting (also if the music is a bit monoton and not my cup of tea) nevertheless very enjoyable

All together quite decent, but I really don't like seeing multiple times the same barely interesting thing (the already mentionned polygonal decomposition).
Also not really fan of the blur like effect on most of the parts (badges, fluid thingy, ...)That's a shame because else there are quite nice parts (like the welded tubes).

massive jungle style tune carries the demo quite good. :)
for well executed oldskool demo spirit!
wasn't that nice
nice visuals, slow code.
Nice and stylish. I get kind of "Suicide Barbie" vibes from the design but considering who is involved I guess that is not so strange... :)
Nice one, I especially liked the pipe in the beginning.
Probably one of the demos in the truest original form in recent years.
"Let's show off."
"Aaaaight, what have we got?"
"Plenty of this and that."
"Sounds good, what else?"
"This stuff might look cool too, let's throw it in."
"Ace, it's a wrap."
And that's what I truly still love. It doesn't have to be coherent (a new fashion word, eh?) all the time. It's about doing stuff you think might look cool. And that's what I truly appreciate in this demo. It's very "honest" in that regard and doesn't try to be something else. Just good old fun. Rocks.

As elfh and Axel said.
Not bad. Soft and slow.
Oh and I also had to rename d3dx9_36.dll to run it.
what u2 said.
instant and massive thumbup
massive
Nice production, but my suggestion is to use a smaller mesh (or something) and use more correct physics for the smoke. Sure its nice, but it is too optimized for me. (i want to see vortex movements and stuff like that).
The transitions are boring, (fade to white and back to new scene or fade to black and back) and as hollowman said "it is all too disconnected, and I expected even more from the involved people"

Nice demo !
incoherent, but really nice!
wow. Some amazing texture in that demo. Much appreciated!
the design makes me really horny
cool 'n fresh :D even if the first part is so gay

well done, elusive. but some more variation would've been a good idea and would've brought some more ideas/variations in the demo. anyways, well done sound, elusive <3<3

Well, this was pretty boring, really.
Hated the music, felt the visuals were just recycled old FLT effects for most parts and there's no "feel" to the entire thing at all. Or I'm missing the point, which is rather possible.....

the disintegration parts and smoke are awesome
I like the demo.. but with with music, only one thing, the drum programming could be a bit better with changes.. very nice though.
I liked everything but the scene with the gas mask. that looked like a boring cocoon scene.
Awesome, I liked everything about it.
now this was beautiful. spectacular stuff. i need to watch it again straight away.
Very nice. Especially the soundtrack is awesome. Thumbs up.
Purely PHAT. Yes.
:)
DAMN. damndamndamn. I actually liked that they kept the music simple, let me pay more attention to the visuals.
thumbs for the sound.
Great!
great stuff! the exploding models scene was too long indeed though
Awesomeness
So good. Especially the tune rooolz!
Lots of work, but a totally incoherent result. Pretty bad :/
Not a demo I like, but it has decent 3Ds
rather boring demo. too bad because there are some nice ideas here and it looks pretty good. tune is MUCH too boring too.
the hell I forgot to comment on this demo. Well. Rox :)
well pulled of visuals with a killer soundtrack - few too many skulls for my liking though
Veeery nice
What Gloom, Axel and probably some other people said. I really love the tune though - and for me it gives it that sense of progression and continuity that others here complain that it lacks
Soundtrack plzzzzzzzz :)

Kicking still four years after!
looks good
kind of nice
Neat art direction, but I felt it could have done better with pacing (upbeat soundtrack doesn't rhyme well with slomo'd laid back visuals). Still, great job.
nice demo, forgot to thumb this up until now when i rewatched it on Mindcandy #3
Always liked this very much.
I especially liked the cartoon rendering part, but the whole demo kicks ass!
Ooops! Missed that one. Gorgeous Soundtrack, a little bit lackluster direction (seemed rather random), but gorgeous visuals.
.
Still love everything about this one <3
No thumbs? Must correct! Great demo. I really like the music and the intro with the falling buttons pins.
never too late to thumb it up.
Great effects (apart from the embarrasing shattering figures with gasmasks) and atmosphere, but oh why is there a distracting overlay sitting on top of it for the whole demo? I really liked the soundtrack.
Fairlight
Beautiful

Wow! This demo aged so well! Really good prod!
This one always stuck with me; I remember being stoked on the visual style when it came out and the soundtrack really carried the vibe. Now 15 years later I still get the tune stuck in my head from time to time, which is not something I can say about most prods, so it’s funny to read all the comments complaining that it was uneventful, which I guess is sorta true, but also I’ve never felt like it needed anything more (for its time). Still love it. Also:

Last thing; I never actually thought the demo was inconsistent, at least any more than the style it emulates (and confidently achieves).
this demo aged really well, still looks great in 4k resolution, with multisampling to the max 15 years later!
