FLASH, who needs it?!

authors just don't follow their time or they just expect everyone else to be very stupid.

Atleast I have assumed that most active sceners have a bit more clue about what is possible with flash.

Btw, please add Flash-Stuff as "Wild"-Demos, not as Intros/Demos.
Or ask analouge to include Flash as platform.

Well macaw, I made it in flash so you can also see it, since from what it seems no other demo can run on your pc...

Seriously now, it's not wild and I suppose adding a "flash" platform would be wise since there *ARE* flash demos from groups with quite a large background.

I don´t think that the words "flash" and "demos" fit together. Just upload as wild demos, since you can actually make flash stuph which is not much more than a ported animation.

It is true that this belongs to a 'flash demo' category rather than demo.

It is also true that this little sucker can be shown on practicaly any pc, it has some (even interpreted) code , it runs smoothly and it's only 6KB uncompressed.

Why not? Let 'em flash guyz impress us if they can! :-)

macaw: i don't think "flash plugin + webbrowser" and "opengl + detonator drivers" is any great difference in either file size or functionality.

Still, flash should get its own platform entry. Category demo/intro is OK imho.

cD: being dogmatic doesn't help the scene. We've seen loads of fights for oldschool to newschool, for non accelerated to accelerated, from intros to demos, and the list goes on indefinately.

"flash should be assraped" is a very insulting statement for everyone that uses this tool either for building websites, or demos.

Similarly someone could diss demopaja for having a very similar way of manipulating your demo objects as flash does, but taking a closer look you can clearly see that it takes much more to actually produce a demo.. (and Gerbera.. what a demo it was.. great work moppi).

macaw: talking on fair terms here, I could export it as a projector file which would take roughly above 200k. It doesn't even reach the driver's filesize. But then it wouldn't be platform independent.

kb: I totally agree with you on a new "flash platform" entry. Oh, and you forgot to include the OS size for viewing anything demo-like. =)

To end this reply since it is more appropriate for the BBS, this flash intro as stated in it's text is not intended to impress the demoscene. There's no design to it, and I don't expect it to be "liked" by people. It's just a small CODED production (the bubble particle engine is roughly 3k) by a musician that tries to get a message through:

"Use whatever tool you feel comfortable with, or have the knowledge of. Then the end result is what should be judged."

kb: I might be wrong, but I think macaw thought he wouldn't dare putting flash in a demo/intro compo.

And I agree with him on that, flash is so different from compiled code that it deserves its own category in compo and on pouet...of course it's just my 2cents

Hi! It's nice to see a greek scener beeing active, even if it's flash ;) I hope to see a PC demo from Alloy on the incoming greek parties!

When I first ran this in my home, I was wondering, is the scroller so slow? I run 4 lines, went to the kitchen to drink a glass of water and returned back to read the next 4 lines :)
Well,. flash was too slow for my computer. Here on the Icafe in a Pentium 850Mhz it runs very nice. A small flash intro with just a scroller and nice particle bubbles.

I am not interested in flash at all, but the idea to have a special flash category in pouet is ok.

The message is good. We code CPC, they code PC, we write quickbasic, they write C, we love asm, they love flash and we don't take it hard, we are a big family of demomakers =)

Thumbs up for flash intros, but in a separate section.
Anyone can make flash play an anim and claim it is a demo, nobody can release an intro with a single spinning triangle.
IMHO there is a limit to take care everywhere...
