sets new standards regarding graphics on the amiga - no ppc but 060 and aga.

Never seen sucha beauty since Relic.Thank you guys, this demo rocks...
this one really knocked me out. the last demo which had such an impressive effect on me was stars^nooon.
for all you pc users: get the video at http://omr.planet-d.net/amidemos/l.html :)

Incredible.
It is 3d, but with a soft and warm feeling i couldn't find in any other demo - the scene with the butterfly is one of the best i've ever seen.
This just make me happy and hopeful for the future of realtime cg!

wack shit!! amiga is still alive boys.. stay sober
sober?
s-h-i-t
this is totally awesome ;D
one of the best demos i have watched on my 1ghz, gf2 pc for a long time (using winuae)... this really rocks.
incredible...
Seems to be an mpeg movie, but no it's full 3D scene ( so smooth on a 060@50MHz )
A M I G A ROOOOOOOXXX!

Yes, this is the way you kick ass.
Kudos to Maturefurk for doing that with 'obsolete' hardware.
Kudos to Maturefurk for doing that with 'obsolete' hardware.
I've never had an Amiga, but I definitely respect it as the important part of the scene and its history. Lapsuus is an impressive show for this 'obsolete' machine. but it's not *that* impressive. dunno.. maybe that's because I haven't had a happy Amiga childhood.. 8))
hey bhead, try to do the same on a pentium@50MHz...
It's just amazing.
And design is great too, one of the best I've ever seen on amiga (after SmokeBomb/Ozone..)

that's what I said. it's a nice example of what can be done with old hardware. but as a work of art - sorry, it's too blurry, sluggish and uninspired. maturefurk, return to your geforce3's and faaaast 8))
wow!
just watch the divx...
it's AMAZING, I've really wondered if it was realtime or precalc, the blur effects are really cool (this is the main reason that made me doubt)
to sad the divx quality is so poor :|
just one regret, the music isn't as good as the code and gfx (that are EXCELLENT)
to (try to) answer bhead about the blurry aspect, I think it's due to the fact that the whole demo is rendered at half (or a quarter) of the display resolution to speed up the blurs like in realtime raytracing stuffs (like GAMMA or TAINT)
note I may be wrong since I've only seen the divx

yeah.. artwork was VERY good.. Not a surprise, because of the professionals..=).. engine made some wobbling in textures and stuff..
God, that's really a kicking ass demo....
i can't believe this is running on a 68060/50...
all is there: power, design...
now i know why i'm proud to be an amigaist

I Hope That's it not the last Amiga production from MatureFurk..
definitely rulez.
definitely rulez.
Wonderful demo even if it's 2x2. On a large screen i think it was magic !!!
In a word : Perfect. You must see it. Great scene the one with the butterfly. Amiga still rocks.
a great demo!

as a piece of art, nothing. for me that is, it didnt impress me at all this way, it impressed the other - technically. it was hard to believe it is not an animation in some scenes. is there so "real" 3d on PC? amiga kooders kixx azz!
As always "Only AMIGA Make It Possible" =)
yes, on a pc this would have been running 60fps in 800x600 with 32bpp textures.
any hows, i like it ;-)
You know, you can take any PC demo, reduce it to 160x128 resolution, add blur, and presto, it looks like an animation. That's the downfall of the PC.. realism is lost when distant resolution is sharper than normal human vision. :)
I still admire what these guys accomplished (or seemed to accomplish!). Remember they also made 3D Mark 2001.
PS. WinUAE also makes it possible. :)

no, no, no, no, no, eec imposible! (maturefuck guys roxx like hot shit!)
[perhaps, it would be more interesting if anyone of maturefurk would say something 'bout making this demo and how da hell is anyway possible to animate so cool 3dstuff on so slow machine]

They did. There are two exe's stashed in one of the subdirectories. One Amiga, one PC!
i guess it's time to throw our PC's to trash... amiga rules.
Second Reality was the first demo I saw that blew me away.
When I first saw Doom I was blown away.
When I watched this, I felt like that again.
I need to buy an Amiga so I can watch it run this rather than watch a crappy video of it.

you could give this one a try:
http://amigaosxl.haage-partner.de/frames/products-amigaxl-e.html
it allows bootable AmigaOS 3.9 on a PC and supports nearly all PC hardware components. Try to imagine the power of that ;)

I'd like to know how much of this is an animation or precalculated...seems to me that most of it is an animation. There isn't much design in it...just some scenes put together and the music...*sigh*. I don't know what you see in this, I don't find much to praise about in this one. Only amiga makes it possible...to playback low resolution video?
stupid?
its fair, good 3d scenes but that music is f¤#&#%/& up.
besides i think its out of range that proffesionals compete against amateurs, those guys live from making demos, because IMO that is all 3dmark IS!! not even as a measurer of speed its all that good or precise. but its fun :D ...madonion stick what youre good at, and this is not it.

INCREDIBLE...
And I like the music !!! The classical style make a so magical and unique atmosphear for a demo !
(all sceners only like techno music or what ???)

Big big cheating but still an ok production :-)
why cheating?
A must see! Impressing, I'd have liked to see the demo in a real Amiga, because the AVI is not the same
this is where i need a triple thumbs up !!! bloody awesome! MF roxx! Amiga rulez! i wanna see this on native hardware, alas my 030 isnt gonna be up to it. respect!
Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't the best parts (the turning heads and exploding city) just chunky animations?
I hope I'm wrong, but if I'm not then I don't see what the fuss is about.
I hope I'm wrong, but if I'm not then I don't see what the fuss is about.
wade, best part is a lowpoly morphing head that definetly can be done an amiga1260?
and the explode stuff is just some lowpoly objects that moves in a random looking way and some big polys and some wierd lightning i think (long time since i saw it)
and .. the coolest part is imo the forest part!

All realtime? Amazing!
Sorry for the scepticism, but I can now give it my vote. :)

well ok, I'll give thumbs up for the code :)
very very nice looking effects, but the music and design isn't anything special. like raver said, as a piece of art this isn't impressive. still, thumbs up. :)
this was the first amigademo i've seen after about 3 years of abstinence, thanks to mtf for letting it be this one .. it completely blew me away the first few times i watched it. the musick is nice too, but i'd say it just doesn't fit in at all.
Dam.
What else is there to say? Taking into account the hardware, this is just prodigiously mind-blowing.

Looked really good on the bigscreen at Asm... But it's a funky slideshow on my 030 Amiga =)
Still, thumbs up...
Still, thumbs up...
Hell yeah!
yup, it rox0rs big time
Incredible
Very very nice 3D and cam motions ! It's smooth and subtle, i damn love it. The fantasy/magical/nature style of the production is great as well. The divx version i've seen lets me unsure about the fact if there is motion blur or not, i'll try to get it running on winuae.
Too bad that the music sounds too cheesy, it is way possible to reach a higher quality level into classical tones nowadays. (cf Merregnon, Vibrants...)
Anyway, very nice show, especialy on amiga.

Great scenes, smooth animation, and very cinematic soundtrack...
All that on a obsolete Amiga.
I love it :)

supreme Dark City influence (an excellent movie btw)... nice demo, lovely scenes
fucking great
here you go eetu, don't spend it all at once
...
It seems that I can't give thumbs up for some reason...too bad ;)
biotek cause you gave thumbs down in your first comment. once your thumb is down you will never be able to use it again so better keep it in your pocket like i did - i commented this but gave a "piggy".
in this case i can help you out by giving my unused thumb-up for this piece. let'em have'em!
arf! a aMiGa MUST see !!
ROXXXX à donf !
ROXXXX à donf !
Impressive, but lacks of... something :/
Great demo!
Give me some SUGAR BABY YEAH! (if it's all done in realtime)
Just wonderful. Not my favourite MatureFurk release but still very, very nice and one of my favourite Amiga AGA demos of 2001.
wha, is this really done on an amiga? fuckin' amazing!
Great release.
Theres been some discussions about
how it is possible render this realtime:
Here is my lamer guide:
2*2 res. gives 160 * 100 res. (16000 pixels to render)
A pc screen of 800*600 pixels (480 000 pixels) (30 times more pixels to render.)
Amiga 060 50 mhz is stronger than a pentium 1 50mhz.
50mhz*30 = 1500mhz!!
Impressive?? not really. Groovy? oh yeah!

Hmm, why haven't I commented on this yet? One of the best demos ever on any platform.
I don't know why so many people knock the music. I think it's fantastic! It's tracked 4ch amiga music right?
I mean seriously, would you guys rather hear the booty banging bullshit that you hear in so many other demos?
It sounds like movie soundtrack music, it's really smooth and in my opinion, it completes the demo and makes it one of the best ones I've ever seen.
The technical aspect of the demo makes it as impressive as it is, too, but it's not the end-all. I mean, I would have still been impressed if this were on a modern PC, because it's not just about technical abilities anymore, it's about putting together something that's more of a work of art.
Assembly 2002 had some really awesome entries. One of them was 32 degrees in the shade. That demo is awesome on many levels, one of my favorites, and it doesn't push out 10 billion polygons a second or whatever.
The times of spinning a box around the screen are over. Now a days, it's more about putting together a complete production; something different - a work of art. Art in the coding, art in the music, and art in the visuals.

Can't believe that I havn't commented this production already. I remember seeing this on the bigscreen at Assembly 2001 and I didn't believe my eyes when i saw the text "Lapsuus on Amiga" in the end. I seriously believed that this was either PPC or just prerendered stuff. Anyway, enough babble for now, here is my (well deserved might I add) thumbs up.
for anyone who's interested in the mod - get it from here http://amiga.emucamp.com/wt/files/customs/Lapsuus.lha
This demo is very well ORCHESTRATED.
I think the music is adpcm, isn't it? (streamed music, i.e. like mp3..)
Oh, I forgot to add a vote ;)
kicks asses x 10!!!
Blink blink. Whoa!
Somehow some of the 3d looks more convincing than the average PC demo... maybe it's the texturing...
In any case it's amazing to look at, and the music is excellent. (especially part 2 and after)

I remember watching one demo on amiga like this, and it really was just an mpeg :)
Good to see it's possible in realtime! And a nice production too!

gargle gargle gargle!! ..
The music reminds me a lot of Christopher Franke's stuff for the TV show Babylon 5. All in all, the music gets better as the demo progresses, and I love the Venice and City-parts.
I first saw this on DivX and I thought there was a problem with the encoding. Then I saw it. Relax your eyes, and this demo almost looks like full motion video. Focus your vision, however, and the really, really low resolution almost hurts it. The demo is so well executed, though, that it's one of those cases where it doesn't matter. The wonderful orchestral soundtrack gives the whole production a very polished and epic feel. Great use of lighting and realistic (and fantastical) color palettes. Great vision all around. While I prefer more effect-driven productions like Lapsus (Windows), you still gotta respect what they've done on the Amiga. While the hardware they did this on is powerful by Amiga standards, it's impressive nonetheless.
my favorite demo on amiga
technically impressive!!!

Hmm, another i've voted for before :) guess was lost inthe crash.
Superb demo, and shows how great textures make all the difference.

Great stuff!
Music by Captain - like in Captain/Image, winner of The Gathering 91 and Anarchy Easter Party 91 music competitions. Check his "Beyond Music" module. His samplesets have "survived" (or been ripped ;) for many years in the Amiga demoscene.

Impressive scenes, textures and music.. please, make some more:)
Amazing stuff! Showing in true scene fashion that it doesn't need the latest hardware to make ass kicking stuff.. just push your bits a bit further and harder :)
yes, and also quite a lot less of them.
Very good modelling, and of course the engine looks good too. My favourite part is the "staircase" scene in the beginning :-)
original feelingmayhem
too much like a trailer or a demoreel
i want high resolution and coherency between the scenes or a story line.
pigface.

Rulez, Rulez, Rulez!! I love it!!
screenshot looks not pretty much
never before has so much been done with so little. The sense of realness, despite the obvious hardware-mandated limitations, is almost unsettling.
extremely impressive.
extremely impressive.
the technically most impressive demo i've ever seen on amiga!
My lapsuus wasn't on amiga, but this is just WRONG :)
true classic
Nice.
Rarity
unbelivable
come on, it's not that good.
It really amazing...good texture choice, helps the scenes a lot I guess.
impressive 68060 demo
blown away
believe to unbelievable
technically impressing, nice 3d and good soundtrack, but _really_ not my cup of tea.
forgot to vote.
shame about the rough video, makes the whole thing too blured. although from what i can see it looks stunning.. (someone know of a improved video?)
darkus:
better quality video.

couldnt believe my eyes.. and i still cant believe my eyes :)
dunno, i never liked this much.
This demo rules.
for sure =)
Lapsuus by Maturefurk should in my humble opinion be counted as the fucking best demo of the year 2001! I bet it will hold this place even if there are still some months and demos to come.
Read the groupinterview with these guys in JP#8 in the hall of fame! And if you didn`t watch it already, do it and you`ll know why they have won the combined Amiga and PC democompo at Assembly that year!!!

68060? That's incredible.
it's nice.
Still a great trip.
Impressive.
Looks nice :)
Excellent.
snail \o/
Marvelous demo! So many beautiful scenes and great music.
one nice definition for "the shit"
nice!
heavily underrated! has some of the nicest 3d scenes in any demo on any platform ever!
incredible
fabulous, incredible! one part seems to be a 3dmark part (with sun, trees...)
cyberpingui: and the name 'maturefurk' didnt give you any clue at all? :P
yep... FutureMark, I noticed that, but not totally sure
:|
something really original about this one... we all remember it...
Awsome coding skills! I would love this with 4 times more pixels :(
i never commented this before? wtf?
Epoch making on AMiga
One of the best ever.
the best!
Instant classic!
Fantastic and rules so much
Nice modelling and texture work.
nice 3d, beautiful scene
This demo is unbelievably, jaw-droppingly beautiful. Without a doubt, one of my favorites now!
Mature fart!
Great stuff!
masterpiece!
Gotta love the technique, the epic mood and the narrative.
Awesome
the music the 3d scenes..
great!
time for amiga to win assembly in 2010 ;-)
great!
time for amiga to win assembly in 2010 ;-)
This sure was (and still is) a jaw-dropper. Probably the best new-school Amiga demos besides the TBL stuff.
*fat-grin*
yep blew me away then and still blows me away now, epic. :)
Epic! A must see!
Pojat olitta hulluja.
Incredible 3D
one of the demos that really manages to create a unique haunting mood, not to mention the technical side of the demo...
forgot to thumb!
It is just to bad it is so short.
I totally forgot this one. Except the 2x2 rendering, everything else is just awesome for its time.
Mmmmm.. I'm falling in love with the Amigahhhhhhhhhhhhhh..
Ten years after, it's always in the toplist!
Fucking great!
I'm speechless......
Not sure what I think about this one, really. Extremely atmospheric with a dark, eerie feel. The wobbly head is nice. But 2x2 motionblurred 3D is extremely forgiving. Relic by NVX had a better crumbling city with particles+explosions in 1998. It's a very good demo, but perhaps a bit overrated.
Just... wow.
Even if there's something to dislike about this demo, there's much more to love!
Sheer epicness.
Epic! Very good demo!
What sir lucas said.
Demo rulez. Not plain tmap but with lighting. Good scenes. It's a pity old A500 can't do that. Or it can?
Rocked my socks off.
12+ years later, this demo still rulez!!
massive
nice one!
!
Cool! :)
I don't know why some scenes are very similar to 3d marks one, really ;-)
Really epic production :)
proper
Classic.
Breathtaking both technically and artistically.
Ran fine on my 040/50MHz.
Ran fine on my 040/50MHz.
Impressive.
One of classic accelerated amiga demos, along with relic, rise, starstruck, etc...
Brilliant in every aspect!
such a delight.
it was great back then
The butterfly is magic
impressive and with nice music..
Most impressive!
wow
ok
I don't believe my eyes
Cool and Impressive.
very impressive indeed
Wow!
Great!
recently rewatched Dark City again and now it's like 'i've seen this scene in lapsuus!' rather than the other way round :D
