good stuff
rulez added on the 2007-07-02 17:59:23 by mrdoob
Oh yes, absolutely.
good art, but a bit... well, eventless. plus, i still hate that depth-of-field look :/

great stuff!
seems abit filler'ed up in the last parts though.
but still quite cool.

killer design, love that fresh look, nice smoke effect and good synch to the cool music.
blazamme domokus! NICE.
yep :D
Interesting design and very nice graphics, specially at the beginning. I also like the little cube. :-) But I agree with Gargaj, something is missing. The music fits but is also way too boring for me. Could have been a killer demo with some more effects.
Well that was fun... it runs in slideshow mode even at 640x480 with all the quality settings turned to ugly. I demand a 320x240 8bit interlace mode for us poor spurned gf5 series owners.
From the video on the intel site (the one that lacks sync), it looks great quality wise but perhaps lacks a little direction - the scenes lasted a little long I think.
Still a very solid thumb up, perhaps I'll change my mind when I see a decent video (or find that vista laptop with the decent gpu, think it's been abandoned under a pile of paper somewhere)

great gfx as usual, but not my favourite fairlight demo..
agree with gargaj. great art (and a nice fluid/gas flow effect), but it feels completely disconnected and random. to be sure, track one also had this to a degree, but where track one only had a few scenes that didn't fit together with the rest of the demo (i.e. the walker and end "road" scenes), this one seems to be all leftovers with no real purpose or intention at all.
what's left is slick but completely soulless, and despite the quality work from everyone involved, i just can't bring myself to thumb it up.

for the brilliant fluid effect and non less brilliant 3d models!
VIDEO PLZ
the dof hurts my eyes. apart from that the scenes look ultra fresh, but they lack connection and flow
Destop+Yolk = mega amiga coolness! :)
Wondering if assembly2007 provides a new cncd+flt release ;-)
AmiiggGGAaaa ! :D

I was very surprised when I noticed this could run almost smooth on my computer! Respect.

Yolk? Where?
lovin' it... runs perfectly smooth and is full of style!
Ed Stop = Destop ?
Holik = Yolk ?
Bad Assumption?
yes.
great
pretty but seemed soulless to me
Nice artwork, models and concept and really great fluid smoke effect but as it is 25mb I really expected much more.
Weak thumb up mainly for that smoke effect.

I found this to be really good. It's got two advanced effects apart from the shading and i think the cameras were good: usually, demoscene productions have the tendency to overdo the "direction"; It's typical for anyone learning a new skill to do too much of it. In this demo, it's done in a more subtle way, I think. There are fast transitions and then slower moments where you are actually being given the opportunity to see whats going on. 'cause in this demo, there is nothing to hide.
I generally dislike static bitmap masks, but I learned how to mentally filter them out.
I generally dislike static bitmap masks, but I learned how to mentally filter them out.
In some of the scenes dof is a bit overused and textures on 3d models are sometimes really low quality stuff. On the other hand I LOVE vector-style 2d art and amazing fluid effect so I'll thumb it up! :)
Ah... I only saw the video but what I saw was excellent. It is a cross between track1 and TBL. And reminds me of Moppi productions.
This and the Still demo are my favourites.
This and the Still demo are my favourites.
too slow on my system, but i liked the beginning :(
Once again top-notch slick design from FLT!
What Navis said regarding the Track1/Moppi mix. Great visuals but a bit empty. I like the smoke effect and the music.
nice visuals, except the logos at the beginning, 80ies Swedish graff style, that didnt fit in, and didnt look that nice in the first place.
Didnt quite get this demo, it was nice and all, but it didnt do anything for me.

Holy Jesus fuck! One of the most stylish demos ever!!! I love demos like this where the team have really thought about the direction and design, and where the graphics and code interact so well.
I'm blown away!
However, it crashed my PC on exit and I had to do a hard reset. Normally I'd be pissed off and throw a tantrum, but it was worth it.

Looks good, sounds good - a bit boring, and I know I do not have a fast gfx card, but it runs too slow here for the content shown...
anyway - can't thumb this down ;)

rulez... nice grafix and musix
nice effects.
I love the style of this demo. Solid code and gfx!
nicely accurated and executed FX, but poor synch and lack of dinamism.
overused dof stuff.
Actually a huge work behind.

Actually a huge work behind.
Yeah looks and sounds quite good but the demo isn't really going to any direction. So no thumbs any direction.
Awesome graphics and the smoke effect kicks ass. A little more synch woudn't hurt though, but that's just my personal perversion ;)
this demo is really ace. i found the flow to be a tad on the slow side though. code and graphics are awesome.
Destop is still teh man. Best in the compo.
Absolutely excellent artwork, interesting scenes and effects (the smoke effect looks quite cool), but somehow without the fitting pace (which I would expect especially with the CNCD brand on it). Something is missing.
that's it pure urban style in perfect execution... my fav. definately
cool, I enjoyed it a lot more than the video, there is quite a lot of details here and there. I guess I have to update my gfx card (radeon 9800, still quite slow; ironically the navier-stokes thing is the fastest effect :). The images look clean, I like it.
It's not perfect, but it definitely looks very good.
Damn it, I keep getting blue screen on exit!! :P
This somehow reminds me of the following:

wohaaaa, great.. no better .. AMAZING demo !!

omg. the style. awesome. fantastic. incredible. the diggers. that green guy. the effects. code. all killer. KILLER!
at the same time i feel no kind of emotion whatsover. it fails so miserably to direct the parts into a whole that it makes me angry. the sound and the visuals act like complete strangers and some scenes scream "synch me" so loud that it hurts. don't get me wrong - i am so mad because this is so F***ING good that i just can't stand to see such potential get wasted by the overall execution. again.
one day fairlight will make that one demo where everything comes together just naturally and becomes so much greater than the sum of its parts. the one demo to end all demoscene. but not today.
take the piggie as the worst imaginable punishment.

aaargh! the style... the green guy...
yeah O_o--b
Wheee, this one rocks. The robot animation is awesome, the soundtrack is Sumo Lounge, some fluid simulation is there... The winner.
The only demo that does not run properly on my machine. Not sure which part of the jerking is intentional. Can only give piggy so far.
Piggy for this. Quite a typical production from the "new" Fairlight. Great music but otherwise quite boring without any wow factor.
logo in the intro and smoke effect rox
best smoke effect evar.
optimization, plz?
optimization, plz?
It seems that it crashes only on my config :P (P4 HT, GF7800 GTX, WinXP Pro). Anyways after watching video ... I must say that's the best use of GPU fluid simulation I've seen so far (everyone else is using pink colours for this effect?!?). Moreover I liked the overall design touch expressed in foregrounds and backgrounds. And the lighting rocks. I didn't like some weird animations (especially robot arm), which got boring after couple of seconds and that the scenes are not coherent. Thumb up from me.
I sort of agree that there is something lacking. It's a bit too relaxing for the style or something. However, visually breathtaking, extremely nice style, graphics and music make this really enjoyable. I love fairlight demos.
note: the video on the intel demo page doesn't do justice to this demo. It's so much better watching it on real pc.

I agree with ryg. And it even stays too long in that scene with the robot and cranes behind. Even if good looking, boring. At least the fluid motion effect was good..
Great.
now that wasn't even fair to the rest of us.
Excessive ownage ... from music to style !
It`s ok, but i would like more demostuff then real life crap stuff that i dont know what is doing in the demo.
fluids
Very weird. really agreeing with fiver2 and ryg.
@hyde: you are perfectly right: there is nothing to hide here. If would see ANY of the visuals in an art book, would buy it. But then, that just like it feels: Like very excellent print stuff. And unlike the last intel compo I don't have to watch it a thousand times to see all the stuff that's going on. But on the other hand, it should be an animation, shouldn't it?

++ Composition
++ Colors
+ Water effect
+ Attached image sprites

Ah what gives.. Thumb down for the code. I dont get why only fairlight demos have memory leaks, appear unneccesarily slow even due to low poly count etc.. I can only suspect that the code is not up to par.
The polar opposite of their first intel compo entry -so much time, yet so little content...
Emperor: give smash a break, he's only 13!
I found the demo a little bit boring and quite slow on my machine for a reason I did not manage to understand.
But since Smash is only 13 and has a cute british accent, here is a thumb up ;)
Way to go young Smash! :)

fantastic art, design and code. music fits, but is a bit boring. my favourite from the compo.
Emperor he's so young that he has still much to learn. For a kid his age this is a brilliant demo with very challenging and interesting effects.
I love the building/room in construction scene (reminds me of Track1). The art and music are very good, including a few stylish elements. Oh, and the little green guy r0xx ;-)
fiver2's words u_u
we want a coop between fairlight and synesthetics!!
Doesn´t work on my amiga.
I feel like I've seen this shit 100 times before, coming from Fairlight. Pls, the music really didn't do anything for me. I'm a bit disappointed, frankly. It's all a bit too "supermarket", too commercial for me.
Caterpillar Demo Competition
Gorgeous.
Gorgeous.
Is Destop working in tv identity nowadays?
though I have to agree that the certain "catch"-factor is missing, the overall look is just too good for not giving it a thumb up. and I disagree with gargaj here - the DOF rocks =)
btw, no legal problems with the caterpillar stuff?
btw, no legal problems with the caterpillar stuff?
The DOF varies quite a bit depending on resolution and anti-aliasing settings. On highest aa + resolution I like it (it's more subdued and subtle) but then the rest of the demo crawls whereas on half-resolution and 2 point aa it's a bit too deep.
The first 15-20 seconds of this is really really stylish, and Destop is just too fucking good for his own good. But then, enter Bob the Builder...
Cool smoke though, and kudos for staying with one scene longer than what is usual these days. I hope that pisses a lot of people off. Really.

smash: took my computer down into black unresponsiveness in the end (Core2Duo E6600, 2GB, GF7900GT, WinXP Pro 32bit, ran it at 1600x1200)
Still have to make up my mind about the demo itself, I'm still undecided between being awestruck because of the scenes or bored to death because of the direction. We'll see.

extremely cool style and music! sumo lounge are back!
Really cool

Indeed, and he also codes using his feet!!
After a watch of the better video, what ryg and fiver said - beautiful but soulless.
Beautiful and relaxed. A perfect chill-out demo even if the music is a little bit to fast for that.
Visually very nice again and the music rulez.
Cute++
Nice music, my fav scene was the self building structure.

Fairlight.
Lovely visuals. The direction could be better though.
Ok, in the video, with all the flickering and jerking gone, it actually looks somewhat nice. Great beginning, but then it goes nowhere.. The smoke fx in the background is nice.
According to your descriptions, I do now imagine shash as a pasty kid with crippled arms. I should be nice then, I guess.

Emperor: Smash is the kid in the middle...
I had to run from the video, i just got my first lcd monitor, and gfx and smoke looks really great on it
cool
the kid on the right reminds me of pantaloon ... :D
I think that if the "depth of field" effect (close+far object blur) was toned down/removed, there would be a HUGE speed increase. alas, I could not find such an option.
and I might relate to it better, if they were komatsus instead of caterpillars. cant recall the last time i saw a caterpillar.
downloadable soundtrack, please?

Someone should put the little green guy as the screenshot, it better reflects the demo :D
yes.
It looks awesome but is just too slow for my liking. And kidrobot wants a word with you...
average...
My big respect for the cool graff logo at the beginning faded a bit when I yesterday stumbled on a font called "cancontrol" on http://www.acidfonts.com/cfonts2.htm ... :) scnr... Okay, with this compo the deadline had to really be met, so any time saving is welcome, and the composition looks great nevertheless. And I admit, I also occasionally use sample CDs as sources when making music. :)
made me press escape before the end..
very nice - excellent well-rounded design!
Great Work :)
i disagree..

All said before: Amazing work... but you look at it and feel nothing that makes your thumb go up.
Stylish ghetto design. Good work niggaz...
digital grafitti aye. great stuff.
my winnie the pooh bontempi organ has "let it be" as one of the demo tunes
The Beatles ripped off Winnie the pooh, so what? It's not like they broke into...yadayada..
Anyway, didn't like the demo that much the first time around, but it's really grown on me. All the delicious details and the caterpillar-sync makes this a thumb up.

The logo is ace. Period. More 2d!
Nice artwork, animation, effects and sound.
Definately a very cool one.

on the one hand i appreciate the soundtrack, the overall design and the little niceties here and there. one the other hand the whole show feels very disconnected and empty. but all things considered: thumb up.
Smash: I know have downloaded and checked the font, and indeed most of it is different from the logo - however except the letter "A", which is really identical, and also the "C" in the logo obviously is a slight modification from the one in the font. As the font was previewed by its name "cancontrol" on acidfonts.com, because of these two letters being represented prominently therein, it was easy to get the impression the font was used completely. Sorry, my mistake, if not totally mistaken, but it's not that big a deal, the logo looks supergreat anyway (and i'ts certainly possible to make great tunes with bontempi organ presets!). I really didn't want to diss you, just tell an observation I made. Now after closer inspection of the case I am glad I can turn back to the initial instant admiration I had for the logo. :)
robot and caterpillars really were great :D
great.
and well... sumo lounge rules! i love this style.

smash: I SOOO wish you'd been defending one of destops BETTER graff-style logos, instead of this... uhm, rather mediocre piece. 'Cause, what you're saying would make so much more sense then.
OK.
The smoke effect is insanely cool, but other than that, I find this dull and rather uninspired.

The 2d art here is superb, not shitty generic graffiti.
Smash: yeah, same old shitty video card I've had for nearly 3 years. The company somehow thinks that buying a new card for me to watch demos on is a waste of money, philistines! And only macs at home, none of which are intel.

I second Preacher completely but give thumb up for the cube.
decent demo.
dlls:
maybe it's just me, but the more external libraries a prod has to use, the less it feels like a demonstration of skill, and more like a cobbling together of other people's stuff. Do you really want a demo with no original coding?
I wet my pants at Evolution of Vision until I realised all the interesting coding was in Intels OpenCV library. Then I thought well, it's nice design, and well executed, so it's still great. This didn't have either.

GbND: what makes you think the DLLs are not made by Fairlight?
bass.dll is a often used lib for sound playback
d3dx9_30 is supplied to enable non-directx-up-to-date people to watch it.
core.dll fxbase.dll piraya.dll are proprietary libs from the demolition demotool.
And i bet lightwave.dll is also the proprietary lightwave importer for demolition.
So whats the problem?

GbND: Bass.dll and d3dx9_30.dll are standard libraries for music and basic d3d-stuff, respectively. You gain no extra superpowers by using these. For instance, d3dx9_??.dll contains code for loading textures, managing shader-effects and multiplying matrices and other boring tasks modern demos demand.
The rest of the dll's are unknown to me, so I assume they are proprietary Fairlight libraries.

THUMB UP FOR 'MERICAN MORON COMMENT ;) + demo. greetings to accession
same problem here with a flashing desktop. but whatever, great demo. already watched it three times.
maybe good in some way... but after 8 hours i watched it hm dunno.. .
there is nothing left i would remember in future... maybe i'll forget the demo in 12 hours... maybe a problem of my age... anyway..
a ok demo ;)

trible tattoo logos , same look like 3 demos now... maybe some new ideas in the next demo ? :) music is cool... effects , ideas and gfx looks same like your last demos...
This has style coming out it's pooper!
smash:
oh, it's shiny on the inside. That's nice.

what's your major malfunction, numbnuts?
I must somewhat agree abit with sire on the font thing. The letters look very simular. But one can clearly see that many letters has been altered and there is alot of "bits and doo-dads" added to the whole piece. But for all we know the artist is just inpired of this style, as it is a wellknown graff-style from sweden back in the 80ies.
And btw, in the demoscene there are not many logos that are made from scratch. So I think its rather picky to complain about a this. But I guess people expect much more from FLT than other groups.

Pantaloon: it's quite slow on my 6600 and I have recent drivers.
My god, this was BAD!
Seriously, take brilliant graphics, effective modelling, ace effects and bland them with uneventful and meaningless direction. This demo is an unfortunate and sad example of how even the best ingredients don't make a royal dinner if the cook doesn't know in which order to throw in the pieces.
Sorry for harsh critic, but you guys could do so much better. I'll reserve the thumb down as a moral advantage in case you happen to win this compo with name voting. :)

Have you gents tried this with Nosound? It just endlessly loops the "insert disk 2007" and CNCD/FLT scenes here.

i like this new design scheme, with the twirly caligraphic elements and such. does this design have a name? or some history? i bet there's some design guru who knows its origin...
original and has some nice stuff in it, nice musics also.
Probably the winner... anyway piggy to me. Score reminds me of Moppi stuff somehow, too... design is absolutely outstanding. Could have been a nice industrial demo, but not that way. I like it, but thats all, sorry.
Mah ... see tactical battle loop instead ...
melw, o'rly.. maybe this one wasn't done for pouet 4-eyes.

Brilliant as usual!

So stop commenting on pouet, smartypants.
I don't care about graffity art but the rendering looks really cool!
The artwork was more than superb, if not simply brillant. I felt tough that some scenes were shown way too long and without coordination. This rules but it would'nt have taken too much to make it a milestone. pity.
This demo is just dripping with style/design, which is awesome.
good style and design
What Paralax said...
enjoyed it very much. thank you.
Don't like it. No real theme, random images and unreadable graffiti.
this is good
Good design!
A matter of taste. Well, definitely not my taste.
Good job.
hot tip; ditch the "data lines" next time, there is no use for them in a demo like this.
good stuff.
Quite interesting. Driver-less Caterpillars certianly rule. But that's just about it. Stylish, yes, but too little content and too repetitive.
A lesson in style, again, again, again.
cool, but misses the final something to bring the single scenes (that simply would look great when taking some screenshots) to "life"
I love the looks. colours, flowers, dof, grafityart and stuff.. all cool. But action is kind of lame and char-animation could have done better. First time liquids are embedded a little nicer but still kind of useless though.
4th ... my god ...
i don't get how this could come out fourth place. it might feel a bit unoriented here and there, but there's a great deal of artistic talent, beautiful detail and visual character in this one. certainly more than in some other 'shove objects -- yawn -- through a tunnel' piece. way to go, FTL!
I love GRAFF and this is demo is freakin' awesome!
Great music and effects...
nice
Seemingly slow rendering at parts, especially in the "IKEA-scene", but great great show. I love the depth of field-stuff, and the genereal "real" feel of the rendering.
I really liked it. And put the green guy in the screenie up there ;)
Blown away yet again! I don't think I've been so impressed by demo design since the Melon days.
This one is really worth a few rewatches. First time I watched it the framerate was too low for my laptop so half the point got lost somehow. Rewatched on video and I thought it was %#¤#%¤ brilliant!
Looks great.
fuckin' great!!!
tickles my design bone
Very nice.
Very cool style; really liked it!
Not my style :(
Great stuff!!
demos don't necessarily have to be deep or tell a story for me... just showing off completely wicked graphics and some nice effects (loved the liquid), combined with fitting music also does the trick for me. Sure, scenes were rather long, but that wasn't bad - it added to the overall feeling of the demo, which was very coherent. Great style, I love it!
very nice stuff
my long lost thumb.
great gfx, great style, well done.
how its possible i missed this one?
instant thumb up!
instant thumb up!
It killed my laptop on its first run but I love it anyways. Those 3 seconds I saw were pure gold.
Need some !
Fantastic graphics and really great feeling.
stylish
Cool graphics, kickass music, awesome design. Just ridiculously cool demo.
handsome
Funky.
Nice visuals
Very nice style & soundtrack
I wonder where my thumb went... well. this still rules. one of the top demos.
Coolness overload.

Nicely done! Love the smoke effect :-)

Yes!
I'm not fond of the style but the visual experience is very pleasing, and the unfolding structure scene is a killer, especially with such lighting.

Still one of my favourite demos, I don't even have a favourite scene - as they all just rock.
So many details to spot, even after so many views I only now noticed the drops going down in the background in the digger scene. This demo somehow has a heart, despite being utterly cool :)

Great smoke and a couple other coder porn effects for the time, but I prefer demos that emphasize on style to be wholesome.
