Some great effects especially the 3d fractal effect and nice graphics. But the direction is kinda messy, i would have thought that would be better when it comes from Andromeda. Didnt like the music so much. Anyway, big thumbs up for this demo and the comeback!

Well,. yep the 3d fractal is the effect of the demo. I also like the start very much. In some parts I experienced slowdowns and in fullscreen I got a crash at the beginning, so maybe I haven't enjoyed the demo in it's full potentional yet.

I can't help to think this is overrated, I think the mfx demo for instance was much better, I didn't dislike the demo either, but I was overall not that impressed :-/
Dropping a comment without a clear memory on Nexus7 is an act of arrogance. I know. But without the association with an obvious legend, this is not a real outstanding production:

This was very enjoyable on the big screen and was my personal candidate for a first place until debris hit the screen. Very nice effects, very nice demo feeling and Archmage is a very cool person to talk to.
And since Andromeda is planning to return to demomaking for good, this demo oozes good news all over.

Great to see the heroes of my youth back. It's a good start in the new era, but I expected a second Nexus 7. This one rules in many ways, but also has some empty looking scenes (cubes) which don't fit to the rest of the demo.

while i was preparing the pc competition, some guy was standing behind me and asked if he could check on the compo machine. and then i saw the half forgotten andromeda logo, all the handles, FTW!, one effect after the other, not a single screen without some kind of idea!

No thumb from me, since i hated the music and most of the parts were ugly. A few decent effects rescued it from being horrible, however.
The best scene for me is the blobby-molecules one (raycasting?). Also the fractal is nice.
nexus 7 was my favourite demo for quite some time and now, more than twelve years later my heros are back :) great comeback - BUT: i was planning my next demo to be a ride through a 3d infinite zoom - i already made some test scenes with houses and bridges - i think i'll have to come up with another concept now ;)

This demo is fucking awesome. I know scene.org awards are biased and stuff but hopefully this gets the 'best effects' award because it really deserves it. Best effects for a *freaking* long time!

its good but there is still room for improvement for you on the pc-platform. try more non black/non white backgrounds etc. ;)

Okay for someone who's been out of the game for 15 years I guess, but I'm going to have to bring this one down. This was just too ugly both music-wise and visually. The effects were also quite mediocre, and for the love of god... That lens flare!! Are you guys insane?

As for those of you who say that you had expected more from Andromeda, ask yourselves: had you really expected ANYTHING at all from Andromeda?
This wasn't about topping Nexus 7 or making Nexus 8. It was about getting back into the game of demomaking. Which we did. And we're pretty proud of that.

First Demo since 1994? I really enjoyed the demo and it was my favourite until the farbrausch-demo appeared. The Idea of the 3D-fractal was well implemented indeed... great work guys!

As this is the very first thing we code for the pc platform, I would greatly appreciate bug reports. If you feel like helping, write down a description of the bug on a barrel of beer and send it to: mr. Hyde, 2286 Alexander Strasse, 88932 Hamburg. Or, e-mail me at hyde a-t andromeda.no. I've got one report saying that the music glitches at two occasions during the demo, and I'm particularly interested in hearing if anyone else has this problem.

I guess half of the guys here judge this demo on Andromeda's past achievements, blinded by their comeback. Unfortunately (or fortunately, because I can stay objective) I'm not very familiar with the oldschool amiga scene so their name doesn't really ring a bell for me (so sue me).
That said, I thought there were some really cool effects in this one, the wobbly stuff in the beginning, the colliding galaxies and yeah, the 3d infinite zoomer, despite having coder colors. Yes, it seems I am watching this demo quite frequently. This have much the basic stuff I like in demos. And nice to see 2D artworks made by elites. Interesting "horror"-effect at the end of the demo.

it's nice prod.
forgetting entirely about the long history these old farts have, i was impressed with this for the quality of the effects. some modern, interesting and clever routines here that arent trivial to pull off. added to that, everything runs completely smoothly on less than top end hardware.

Same goes for FR-25 and now FR-41.
Give people a gold bullion once and the day you give them "only" gold coins, they are kind of disappointed.

Leia: hehehe, I just see coder colors in the screenshot and not the lovely colors I ripped so often from Andromeda demos back in the day just because I couldn't come up with a proper color scheme myself. :D
Leijaa: Are you blind? Those are far from pastel. In fact, the contrast is very high. The colours themselves are almost random in each colour channel. (with a slight bias towards red/yellow)
i didn't find this too noteworthy. but is good enough for thummy.

earx: I have seen that on some nvidia cards the whole demo gets a very low framerate all over. This does not seem to have anything to do with the amount of VRAM, it runs smooth on my radeon9800pro with 128 megs of vram. Could you please post or e-mail me your specs? (hyde at andromeda.no)
cyberpingui: First of all, you need vertex and pixel shader 2.0. I believe you have vs1.1 and ps1.4. However, I check for hardware support, so it shoudn't crash like that.

I fail to see where the 20megs are gone and some scenes suffer of black-background-syndrome with dutch colorscheme on top.

We need more demos nowadays with high quality 2d art like this. It's great to see legends back at it after such a long break (Nexus 7 is one of my favorite demos). Next time though, you need to improve the direction and flow :)

This is one of those demo's that is far better than the sum of its parts. It also helps that it had a sort of retro Amiga feel to it and was well put together.

Finally managed to watch the video. Didn't quite enjoy the soundtrack, but most effects kick ass. Liked it a lot overall.
I guess I'm not entirely convinced that all those messy stuff adds up to an awesome demo.

This reminds me of the good times. It's full of effects! It's not so great on design but that doesn't matter, the effects are what it's all about.

Ok, ok - one might argue that the 1st feeling is the right one, but after watching this prod a few more times, I have to revise my judgment - I think it's a very good comeback and it does sport some interesting effects. However, I just can't shake the fact that I really, really don't like the music. I just keep looking for a melody, but every time I think I found one, the music changes a bit and I'm left lost and confused again. Which is a shame, because I'm sure there's been put a lot of effort into this, but it just doesn't quite catch me, as I hoped it would. If I could change my vote, I would make it a piggy. Enormous piggy, yes - but still a piggy.
An long overdue thumb up! I can't quite put my finger on it, but there has always been a quality factor in Andromeda demos that I don't see elsewhere. Very clean, slick and appealing.

Now I am a relative newcomer here and I didn't know much about Andromeda before watching and yet I think this demo has a really nice "oldskool" feeling without falling for the usual "DUDE its not 1994 anymore" trap. Coupled with the great music (yes) this is a real pleasure to watch.
