if anyone can explain to me why this was disqualified please let me know.
i sure as fuck cant figure it out.
and i sure as fuck wont recommend anyone to release any short_films for asm ever again, let alone bother beeing the delivery boy.
pardon my french, i am pissed.

even worse is the fact that it got released without having any second chance to compete somewhere else.

yeh, it's lame when the organizers disqualify a release and then publish the entry any how (has happend to others at ASM too..)
the video compos at asm have always been mostly complete shit. and yeah, it never is a good idea to try to enter something there, since if one has anything too original, it will most likely just be not shown. havent seen the satori video yet, but i'd expect it to be damn good.
added on the 2004-08-09 11:45:11 by nosfe nosfe
i expected it to be damn good too. And it is. Actually its one of their best, at least for me. Who the fuck disqualified it, and why???

As to the disqualification... I wasn't in the jury since I was having other organizer duties at that time but at least the filesize is too big: 150MB was the maximum as stated on www.assembly.org and this is 200MB

What the motherf**k! It's great. And what purpose does a size limit have for videos in a compo?. Oh no, this is the scene, we need stuff to be grainy, lofi and look 80's. there is this brand new device going around with a 700mbg capacity. it looks sorta like an lp, only its shiny and mettalic and a lot smaller, why not use those. and save the HD space, if thats the damn issue.

Fuckings to asm crew for this stunt. And biggubs to satori.

Be sure to get your red/blue 3D glasses out for the entirely pink bits! This is a neat technique for creating anaglyphs with one camera = move camera sideways, overlay delayed copies of resulting video in red + blue.
I think eating shrooms before watching this would be a very very good/bad idea.

big, BIG fuckings to the compo jury.

i especially love the beginning, it's just so fucking excellent.

I don't know what that was other than scary ass shit. So incredibly well done and wow I'm just like please do not taunt the squishy brain fluid leakage.
doc: h7 told me at bzm that it was disq couz of time length and that he didnt care about it couz he didnt do the rules for it.
but at results.txt there still is jury points for it.

and it makes no sense to disq it either for file size limit or time limit. if you're showing a film you should fucking keep it on the higher res possible, why would anyone want to loose quality on digital format/bitrate conversions?

i even bothered writting on "comments to organizers": "please fade out on 5 minutes instead of disqualifying it"

i just wonder, if the compo orgas dont know what happened, who the hell does?
should i bother abyss once again and hear another "chimera wasnt disqualified by asm orgas, it was the jury" and the jury coming back with "we didnt even see it"

how many fucking years will we keep having this shit at asm?

i sure as fucking hell am not planning participating again.

whats the point of working 2 months on a prod to see it getting disqualified and still released without any decent reason?

where im from ppl give a fuck about the prods and the people who make them. i always thought the "best demoparty" would also, but im seriously starting to reconsider it..

even fucking kooma still gets disqualified, i bet they only played nosfe's video for a change couz he was in the hospital.

bah, "greetings to accession only, fuckings to lamers."
added on the 2004-08-10 06:45:56 by psenough psenough
as it reads in the results, satori wasn't disqualified, it just didn't got enough jury points to be shown on the big screen. getting not shown on the big screen is not the same as disqualification.

so, once again: yes do blame the jury if you need a target. the jury gives the points and makes the recommendation of how many entries there should be on the big screen. it should be noted though that everyone can be a jury member and have a say on what is shown in the compo. too bad the names of the jury members haven't been published yet - h7 probably has these somewhere.

If anyone has any comments about compos etc i'd recommend you to post them on assembly forums where most of the organizers will see them.

about fuckhead, i did like it.

As I don't use psychedelics and do bad trips, I have difficulty of understanding the flaming war around this prod.

Soundtrack doesn't contain very interesting stuff, videoeffects ain't that cool. Blue-Red 3d stuff was nice though.

Also promoting psilos in mainstream party isn't excatly politically correct :)

I always thought that prods should be enjoyable in good way, not in "My head hurts, going to freak out soon and get psychotic cause I'm so scare" kind of way.

Now, don't start telling me that "You just don't understand art", I really do, I just can't understand why this kind of art prod needs to be released at large demoparty?
added on the 2004-08-10 15:23:32 by jalava jalava
it needs to be released at a large demoparty because sceners make productions and demoparties are were we officially release them.

if you're still one of the "i like to be entertained instead of watching meaningfull stuff" thats totaly your own problem and nothing to do with definition of art.
howhever if you cant even see the directing value, aesthetic integrity and the relevance of the content displayed, along with the skills. time and creativity that was clearly required to endeavour this production, you really should really stick with renting movies instead of watching demos, animations and short_films by creative individuals.

whoever needs drugs to recognize this is an awesome video is either a clueless idiot or a clueless moron, i let you pick which category you fit into. either way, no love for bad trips is required either.

if it doesnt click on you, dont watch it again, but dont fucking tell me that kids with cameras recording benches beeing watered deserves to be shown to the public on the "best demoparty still active" and this video doesnt. you can fuck off and die if you do.

sorry for insults, bad mood day.

Scener 1: Gee let's record some video footage and apply lots of different filters to it!

Scener 2: Don't you remember how much shit gfxers got for using photoshop filters on scans?

Scener 1: The times have changed. We'll make it brightly colours and messy and add a lot of noise. Sceners love that sort of stuff.

Scener2: It's missing something.

Scener1: We'll make it very repetetive and boring! They'll love that!

Scener2: But sceners have ADD and look at the shit Visualice gets for his long art demos. People get bored.

Scener1: Yeah, but this is contemporary art and we'll say that it's supposed to be hypnotic.

Scener2: That's great!! You're so smart. But it's still missing something.

Scener1: I already have that sussed. We'll break one of the Assembly rules and get it disqualified. Remember Chimera?

Scener2: Genius! Extra publicity and controversy. Those dumb sceners will lap it up!! No one likes an "injustice"!

Scener1: Ok then, you go and make lots of noise and I'll go and add some filters over some old video footage.

Scener2: I'm on it...but wait! It still needs something more....a title.

Scener1: How about "Fuckhead"?

Scener2: Oh my God, surely that's too controversial for Assembly!!!

Scener1: Yeah that's the point! Hopefully the organisers will have a problem with it then we can crow on about censorship, accuse them of taking our civil rights and all that bullshit. Sceners love that!

Scener2: Oh you little devil!!

I think it went unshown because it was boring shit!
ps has a good point there.

Why should people release only entertaining "pop stuff" on big parties and leave the alternative stuff to smaller parties or not release it at a party at all?

Of course not everyone has to like this one, but still, when there's no good reason not to show it, except that it might be too "weird" for mainstream when it still is nicely done. Is that enough not to show it at party like Assembly?
added on the 2004-08-10 16:08:54 by teel teel
Basically, it's just random video footage mixed with random effects. The first 30 seconds were cool, but the rest was not. So, it makes perfectly sense that it was not shown on the big screen.

I hope they do another realtime demo some day.

ps: shut up, you... pretentious, asslicking wannabe hangaround wanker!

I like to be entertained instead of watching meaningless stuff.

Do yourself a favour.. burn you list of "good", "difficult" and "truly artistic" groups whose prods you always have to thumb up and whose members asses you have to lick each time you are at a demo party... and get a life.

I bet your walls are filled with proud slengpung pictures of you sitting in the homes of finnish sceners who are making demos while you are trying hard not to ejaculate.

Your rants in the asm oldskool list are even more childish than those here.

The jury _is_ supposed to base their votes on personal taste, since they are expected to be representative of the asm visitors. This is why you should join the jury and represent your ridiculous minority instead of sitting on the boozembly cliffs takling to people who you only like you because you massage their already oversized egos.

Normally, I would hesitate to insult someone this way.. but you just stepped over a few lines too many. Calling people clueless or braindead and stubbornly implying that your taste is better, more enlightened and sophisticated than theirs... idiot!

Ps, the fact that I don't know you and thus might be unaware of any personality disorder that might explain your behaviour is not relevant.

Seriously... I'm just a good osberver and judge of character. There are people like you in just about any subculture, and I've seen quite a few of those.

I might be wrong, but I'm usually not. Being a cynic and a pessimist, this fact always makes me somewhat sad...

But I digress.

Anyway, the fact that I don't know you doesn't affect the validity of my criticism against your actual behaviour.

I wanted so much to like this.. But frankly, it bored me. I feel like I've seen this a thousand times before.
One can only watch so many b/w movie clips with distortion and stupid sound before growing tired.

I bet this was innovative in 1996. Or better yet, before Coma - Control was released.

I agree 100% with the organizers.
And... enough of the forest movies already??

This prod left me limp. Most of the movie is pretentious and/or boring, and with ps' incessant whining over the last few days I had hoped for something more interesting (Although I certainly didn't expect anything different from what I saw). Oh, and guys running in forests are seldom a sign of a good wild contrib.

It's quite creepy, but not in a too obvious way, that's what I like about it. I guess the jury thought it would be too "scary" for the gamers. It really should have been shown.

There's something that bothers me about it in a movie/structure kind of way, but the trip effects were cool and the mushrooms looked very realistic. The red/blue stuff might be cool with those glasses.

Okay, so we have mushrooms growing, them somebody eats them and we get to see trippy images of a forest and a city with no real plot or point. There is no (apparent) message, no artistic quality, no cool effects, nothing coherent at all. Just feedback and images.

No wonder that the ASM jury didn't qualify this for the compo, I was bored to death. What I do agree with the whining people here is that ASM shouldn't release stuff that hasn't been shown on the big screen, but that's not the issue here. Satori demos are great, this Satori wild is not.

People/jury at Assembly (definitely NOT a demoparty) are expecting 3D scenes for stupid gamers. How could they like a Satori video ? It's not as good as previous Satori videos maybe but still worth watching. Assembly tries to be politically correct with "no drugs" when half of the gamers use pirated games.

Here we go again.. you'd think people would've learned after Chimera, but I guess not.

The Assembly demo compo jury can consist of ANYONE attending the party.. except possibly those entering a demo. You can like any type of demo, they'll still let you on - it's amazing. So perhaps if you think the jury has poor taste, then why don't you gather some friends with similar tastes as you and participate in the jury next year? Otherwise, you have no right to complain. Zero. STFU.

Actual demo review: On first viewing, the first half pretty much makes no sense, and the second half is a bit more consistent and appealing. On further viewings, you may start to connect the scenes in the first half with the second half, if you're that much of an artiste. It has ideas but it seems more of a "portfolio" than a single short film.

controversy is art too. just look at dada or stuff like the ready-mades. i cannot see why ppl react so weird when a demoscene production 'plays' with this element as well. that you dont like it, is just YOUR way to look upon it. Thus if other people DO LIKE IT, they arent wrong, they just spot the art value in it that you DONT. And this video is quite nice actually :)

The beginning is quite neat, but then it starts to have the same dissolving effect like from most of the previous satori wilds. I do like the effect, but it also feels like milking it over and over again.
It kinda went downhill some releases ago, this is good but nothing to thumb up/watch again for me actually.
