So they just used better video codec to reencode the old video, if I'm reading this correctly? I guess ffmpeg rocks these days... which codec and params made this possible, can you share?

This was great on screen, with strong late 90s to early 00s aesthetics, and had me think: yes, that's what 64k should be.
But I had never seen the original.
Now seeing both side by side, I am impressed. Doing a remake is a different beast altogether, and the video shows how faithful this is.

Nearly 23 years ago, when I fawned over the original video, I imagined what it would take to someday make it a realtime demo. Not only was that done, but you skipped straight to the "64k intro out of a demo" remake. And unlike some other remakes where the visuals or music are compromised, you actually got some assets and made it indistinguishable from the original. I'm just.. blown away... which is nice to still get out of the demoscene once in a while.

I like the idea of recreating an old animation in 64k, it really gives this a nice "retro" aestethic. But I also wanna see new demoscene content of this quality! This intro really reminds one of the fact that content creation really seems to be the main bottleneck for intros beyond 4k.

just lacking the filmic contrast in postpro that the original seems to have... that makes the lighting look a lot flatter / less present. but still a sick techdemo for the amount of content in 64k.

When I saw the video back in 2002 I already thought "Oh wow, this really should be done in realtime". I didn't think anyone would do it in 64k, thoguh! :)
On a few scenes there's maybe a bit of glow missing but apart from that it's really a perfect conversion. And the music is absolutely awesome, too.

As written on the beam slides, the codec is H.64K. Problem with is that it takes 6 months and a lot of manual input to encode 4 minutes.

I didn't understood this was a port from the previous video/wild entry, which i have now watched.
I think prefer a tiny bit the previous version but I am impressed by how close the new demo matches the old video.

An utterly massive technical achievement for sure, but the 20+ years out of date visual aesthetics (like the way over the top camera shaking that probably looked just fine on a 14” monitor back in the day) kept distracting me.
