NTSC NES / Famicom only. As official PAL machines have different PPU timings and we have to cycle count until the last line of raster effects :)

me like... I was wondering why NTSC as it makes live always harder or us PAL coders are lazy :D

Heavyweight release for an underappreciated platform.

Will battle hard for a high placing.

very glad that you've made it through all the production hell - sitll couldn't believe it's stock Famicom with nothing but a program and character ROMs on a cartridge, great design, and that olezha's music is just <3 <3 <3

very cool and impressive, especially considering maximally strong NES limitations

For the tune, the wobbler, and the 3D objects along the text!

Really great stuff, at least from what I currently know about the NES. The best part is of course that it's all NROM - no bankswitching or IRQ.

Best Famicom demo I've seen, very nice work! Some of the best DPCM IRQ abuse around :-)

I'm quite curious about the 420 color screen, I understand what the code is doing but I'm not sure what I'm _supposed_ to be seeing. Composite artifact colors? Time-dithered blurring?

It's using a hardware bug/feature that if all rendering is off and VRAM port address points to the palette memory, it will display the color of that entry as a background color. This is why there's a big PPUADDR read slide during active display.

This effect, combined with color emphasis, had been discovered and made into a full color palette demo almost two decades ago. But nothing more had been done to it until now.

natta: ah, I see. So you have 6 bits of palette that you're cycling through + 3 bits of emphasis, and filtering out redundant/invalid colors get you 420 colors total. Now it makes sense!
