Either it's not working properly on my machine, or then it's the worst-sounding synth I've ever heard
Im sorry but it is horrible
Some thoughts:
1. Example file doesn't seem to be showing too much power of this tool.
2. I prefer standard C, D, E... to do, re, mi... in trackers. ;)
3. It would be cool if music was embedded into the example instead of being stored in separate file.
4. It's quite hard to tune anything using frequency slider (which should probably be renamed to "period").
5. Looking at the mapfile, it doesn't seem to be a synth for 1-4k, so it definitely should offer something more than it offers now.
Anyway, as you said, it's first version, so no thumb so far and I'm waiting for next releases.

I have just one question: Is the noise intentional? When pattern 2 of the sample starts, nearly all I can hear is noise. And I'm not speaking about note-on/off clicks, but noisy noise. I hope it only sounds like that on my machine.

I coded a saw wave generator for a DSP processor today. Even the first buggy draft test version sounded much better than this, so I'll join the bandwagon

Insert Sleep(40); after message processing loop in your sample player.

If you dont get what ~25 fps have to do with this then let me explain. As you suggest to insert synth update call into rendering loop, i have to notice that highly complicated hi-tech 'sweetheart' demo runs at 15 fps on some scenes, and average framerate can hardly approach 30. from the bottom.

Skarab, what i said before was just an approximation based on fraps framerate counter. Now i've performed a benchmark with fraps.

It ultimately fails because of crash-bugs and very difficult interface. I must admit I liked the 'random tune' - for some perverted reason... these tunes are ideal to put you to sleep.. The screenshot could be better.. How about one from that demo with the infamous 'sex' scene ? (from the same demo with the limping horse, or whatever it was..).

first of all: i don't see the point in releasing that tool. but you decide, not me.
anyway the samples may be good enough for a 4k but not more. the tool seems to be full of bugs (crashed 4 times in 4 minutes). i tried hard to do a good basedrum but it seems that i am to lame, to much idiot or a master looser to create one. maybe just my speakers are fucked up?! no need to talk about the hardness in tracking music with it. i would prefer hacking notes into the demo/intro source code instead.
but even the thumb goes down now you can show us invisible potential by doing a great tune for a later intro and actually this is what it is about, isn't it? :)

scicco: this version was made in few days, and there is as much bugs than fuxplux (before that i didnt know things like making sound, frequencies, ... ).
